Publication number: 20140048354Abstract: Energy loss in a dip lubrication system is reduced by reducing the immersion depth of the gear within a pool of oil. This can be accomplished by increasing the pressure within the dip lubrication system which effectively reduces the flow rate of the oil so that the oil remains separated from the oil pool for a longer period of time thereby reducing the oil level and the immersion depth of the gear within the oil pool. Alternately, this can be accomplished by substituting a higher density gas for air which has the same effect. In a third embodiment the immersed gear includes wind vanes that direct air against the oil pool creating a trough which effectively reduces the immersion depth of the gear within the oil pool.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 13, 2013Publication date: February 20, 2014Applicants: Imperial Innovations Limited, Ashland Licensing and Intellectual Property LLCInventors: Anant S. The variable speed gear is configured to rotate on the rotating shaft when a clutch gear that is embedded in a side surface of the variable speed gear is disengaged from the coupling sleeve and to be fixed to the rotating shaft when the clutch gear is engaged from the coupling sleeve. The coupling sleeve is moved in the axial direction between the engaged and disengaged states by a shifting fork F3. A lubricant supplying structure directs lubricant to the clutch gear by diverting the lubricant against a side surface of the shifting fork that faces the clutch gear and a side surface of the coupling sleeve that faces the clutch gear.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2007Date of Patent: December 20, 2011Assignee: Aichi Machine Industry Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hideki Aoyama, Yasuhiro Sawaki, Hisashi Kawai

Patent number: 8047720Abstract: Oil is supplied to bearing 1 and returned to oil storage chamber 6a via chamber 2a and pipe 2b. First oil return chamber 8 and second oil return chamber 7 communicate via a hole, and second oil return chamber 7 communicates with oil supply chamber 6 via oil return hole 9. The opening of the extension pipe 10 of oil return hole 9 has a small gap, to result in negative pressure in extension pipe 10. The negative pressure sucks the oil leaking from between bearing cover 3 and rotor shaft 20. The oil leaking is suppressed, keeping the supply of the lubricating oil to the bearing excellent.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 2007Date of Patent: November 1, 2011Assignee: Toyo Electric Mfg. Co., Ltd.Inventor: Tamotsu Ibaraki

Patent number: 8028524Abstract: A supercharger for an internal combustion engine having an internal reservoir adapted to receive a supply of lubricating oil. An oil slinger is mounted on the impeller shaft for rotation therewith that extends into the reservoir for collecting and slinging lubricating oil onto the supercharger bearings, shafts and the drive and impeller gears. A baffle assembly is carried by the interior of the supercharger housing for controlling the volume and flow of lubricating oil onto said gears and bearings and directing oil flow therefrom back into said reservoir to prevent excessive lubrication buildup on the gears and the deleterious effects that result therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 2008Date of Patent: October 4, 2011Assignee: Vortech Engineering, Inc.Inventors: James K. Patent number: 7984791Abstract: An oil discharge structure of a baffle plate for discharging oil from a space of a gear side to a space of a transmission side with a space-saving design is provided. A slit is formed in a side face plate facing a final gear of a case side baffle plate to discharge the oil from an oil volume X in the circumference of the final gear to an oil volume Y stored in a clearance between the case side baffle plate and the transmission case, and in a clearance between the housing side baffle plate and the housing. This provides a compact structure that is not larger in a radial direction of the final gear and discharges the oil in the oil volume X.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2005Date of Patent: July 26, 2011Assignee: Jatco LtdInventors: Hiromi Taguchi, Hitoshi Suzuki, Katsuyoshi Nakajima

Patent number: 7900535Abstract: A transmission includes: a casing of the transmission; a shaft rotatably supported by the casing and having an oil passage; plural gears mounted on the shaft. The lubricant is partly lifted and stirred in response to a shift operation implemented by selectively engaging and rotating the gears. The transmission further includes a lubricating mechanism placed at a position higher than the shaft and having an upper end opening in an upward direction so as to collect and store the lifted lubricant. The lubricating mechanism is provided with an oil supply port through which the lubricant is guided to the oil passage of the shaft.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 2006Date of Patent: March 8, 2011Assignees: Aisin AI Co., Ltd., Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Seiji Usami, Takafumi Yamada, Yasuhiro Nitta, Akihiko Ikeda, Shinji Ogawa

Patent number: 7866444Abstract: A bearing lubrication system includes a stationary output shaft carrier housed within a gear housing wherein the output shaft resides partially within the carrier and upper and lower bearings support the shaft. The carrier includes first and second arcuately extending troughs for catching lubricating fluid slung by an oil slinger. The first trough is in fluid communication with the shaft and with the upper bearing which pumps fluid through the bearing and into an upper passageway which terminates in an opening which supplies fluid to a second trough which, in turn, supplies fluid to the second bearing which, in turn, supplies fluid to the annular pool formed on the upper portion of the gear affixed to the output shaft. The annular pool is formed by a cylindrically shaped dike secured to the upper portion of the gear. Overflow from the pool lubricates the gear and returns oil to the reservoir.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2006Date of Patent: January 11, 2011Assignee: Fairfield Manufacturing Company, Inc.Inventor: John Aldridge
