Displacement By Air Or Steam Patents (Class 184/55.1)
  • Patent number: 6547038
Abstract: For the lubrication of the cylinders in marine diesel engines, it is normal practice to supply doses of oil through non-return valves in a ring area of the cylinder in immediate connection with the passage of a piston ring. It is aimed at providing a more-or-less uniform distribution of the oil along the circumference of the cylinder. However, a considerable variation is ascertained in the wear along this area. With the invention, use is made of a high-pressure injection through atomization nozzles, so that an outspread oil mist if formed opposite the individual nozzles, which upon being influenced by the rotating scavenging air in the cylinder is made to impinge against the wall by centrifugal force, and herewith to form a substantially continuous film of oil in a ring area immediately before the passage of the piston ring. There is hereby achieved a good utilization of the lubricating oil, i.e.

Abstract: In order to provide method of atomizing lubricant at a constant rate in a lubricant atomizer irrespective of the kinds of lubricant and the working conditions, the lubricant atomizer includes a compressed air valve having two branches on its downstream side, which one of two branches is connected to a Venturi mechanism, and the other branch is connected to a constant lubricant supplying pump. Compressed air is fed from the compressed air valve to the Venturi mechanism and to the constant lubricant-supplying pump, thus drawing the air from a sight dome while the compressed air is flowing in the Venturi mechanism. Lubricant is pumped to the sight dome via a constant lubricant supplying conduit, allowing the lubricant to fall in the center of the Venturi mechanism in the form of droplets.

  • Patent number: 6401870
Abstract: In one exemplary embodiment, the lubrication system includes a valve between the fluid conduit and the fluid pump, a sensor configured to generate a signal indicative of a viscosity of the fluid and an actuator coupled to the valve, wherein the actuator opens and closes the valve in response to the signal from the sensor. A method for lubricating and cooling an axle within a housing includes the steps of pumping fluid from a reservoir through a first passage having a first cross sectional area, through a second adjacent passage having a second smaller cross sectional area and through a third passage having a third cross sectional area greater than the second cross sectional area to the interior of the housing. The method also includes the step of providing a source of air to the fluid after the fluid exits the second passage. Air is drawn into the fluid to aerate the fluid. The aerated fluid expels fluid from the interior of the housing to the fluid reservoir.
