Cylinders Parallel To Shaft Patents (Class 184/6.17)
  • Patent number: 6554103
Abstract: In an oil-lubricated helium compressor unit, the adsorber can retain all of the oil that might be transferred from the compressor to the adsorber before the system shuts down. No oil is ever transferred or transferable to, for example, the expander in a GM type refrigeration system connected to the unit. The compressor itself will shut down because of a protective switch or seize for lack of oil before any oil carries outside the compressor unit. The unit and the connected refrigeration system can run for more than a selected design life before the compressor shuts down because the limit of oil in the adsorber has been reached. The adsorber can retain as much oil as might leave the compressor over the life of the system plus a safety margin of at least 25%. The adsorber need not be serviced or replaced for the life of the system.

Abstract: A head assembly for use in a compressor having a first compression chamber for compressing a fluid is disclosed. The head assembly includes a manifold housing defining an intake port, an exhaust port and a control valve port and having an outer wall, a first inner wall and a second inner wall. The outer wall and the first inner wall define a suction chamber and the first inner wall and the second inner wall define a discharge chamber. An aperture is formed in the first inner wall for guiding the fluid and oil from the discharge chamber to the control valve port. The second inner wall is internal to the outer wall and the first inner wall and defines an exit chamber. The exit chamber is in fluid communication with the exhaust port and the second inner wall defines a partition between the aperture and the exhaust port such that the oil pools in the discharge chamber.

  • Publication number: 20020081214
Abstract: A variable displacement swash plate type compressor which incorporates a lubrication passage formed in a cylinder block and crankcase, and a spray nozzle disposed at the crankcase end of the lubrication passage. The lubrication passage provides fluid communication between an oil sump and the spray nozzle, and the spray nozzle causes lubricating oil to be efficiently distributed as a fine mist or spray to the crank chamber. The lubrication passage and spray nozzle maximize the flow of refrigerant gas and lubricating oil to the crank chamber under all operating conditions providing cooling and lubrication to the internal moving components within the crankcase.

  • Patent number: 6402480
Abstract: A variable displacement swash plate type compressor which incorporates a lubrication passage formed in the drive shaft, wherein the lubrication passage provides fluid communication between a discharge chamber and a crank chamber. The lubrication passage maximizes the low of refrigerant gas and lubricating oil to the crank chamber under all operating conditions providing cooling and lubrication to the internal moving components in the crank chamber. The lubrication passage facilitates the efficient flow of lubricating oil from the discharge chamber to the crank chamber.

Abstract: A swash plate slides on a plurality of shoes. A lubrication coating is applied to the swash plate. The lubrication coating includes a non-graphite solid lubricant, a transfer adjusting agent, and a resin binder. The transfer adjusting agent adjusts the amount of the solid lubricant that is transferred from the swash plate to the shoes. The materials and quantities of the coating are chosen to extend the life of the parts.

  • Publication number: 20020025258
Abstract: Compressor has a driving unit. The driving unit is provided within a crank chamber and decreases the discharge capacity when a control valve opens a control passage to increase the pressure within the crank chamber. The throttle passage delivers oil with the compressed refrigerant to the crank chamber regardless of whether the control valve has opened or closed the control passage. Because the throttle passage may continuously deliver the oil to the crank chamber even when the control valve closes the control passage, the mechanical elements within the crank chamber can be reliably and sufficiently lubricated and the crank chamber is prevented from being in an insufficiently lubricated state.

  • Patent number: 6206648
Abstract: A compressor having a crank chamber in which a large amount of lubricating oil is constantly maintained. The compressor includes a pressurizing passage through which refrigerant gas flows from a discharge chamber to the crank chamber. A displacement control valve varies the displacement of the compressor by adjusting the flow in the pressurizing passage thereby changing the pressure in the crank chamber and altering the inclination of a swash plate. The compressor further includes a bleeding passage. An oil separator is arranged in the bleeding passage to separate lubricating oil from the refrigerant gas flowing through the bleeding passage. The oil separator and the crank chamber are connected to each other by a recovery passage, through which the separated lubricating oil is returned to the crank chamber, and a pressurizing passage. A venturi tube is employed to help transfer oil from the oil separator to the crank chamber.

  • Patent number: 6174140
Abstract: A compressor having a device for recovering lubricating oil. The compressor includes a discharge chamber and a muffler, which attenuates the pressure pulsation of refrigerant gas sent out from the discharge chamber. The muffler is defined by a muffler base, which is formed on the cylinder block, and a muffler cover, which is attached to the muffler base. The muffler includes a first muffler chamber and a second muffler chamber, which are connected by an opening. The muffler cover has a gas outlet for sending the refrigerant gas out of the compressor from the second muffler chamber. Lubricating oil separated from the refrigerant gas in the first muffler chamber is sent to the crank chamber through a recovery passage. The location of the gas outlet can be easily changed by replacing the muffler cover. Thus, the compressor can be easily adapted to different engine compartments.
