  • Patent number: 6006867
Abstract: A guide apparatus for guiding and arresting an elevator running on column-like guides automatically prevents a transmission of guide alignment errors to the car and an unintended engagement of the arresting device. A roller carrier for engaging the guide running surfaces is rotationally movably mounted on the car with a center of rotation at the longitudinal axis of the guide so that the roller carrier can follow a twist of the guide about its axis. The roller carrier also mounts an arresting device which is vertically displaceable in a mounting bracket by contact with a buffer on an abutment attached to the elevator car. In the case of an arresting braking of the car, no force is transmitted to the guide apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5984053
Abstract: A guide roller supporting apparatus for an elevator car includes a guide roller supporting apparatus comprising guide rollers making contact with surfaces of a guide rail, respectively, each guide roller being rotatably mounted on an upper end of a carrying member, a lower end of the carrying member being pivotably mounted on a frame secured to a top or a bottom plate of an elevator car; a spring mechanism resiliently urging the guide roller against the corresponding surfaces of the guide rail to absorb a lateral force of an impact transferred through the guide roller; and a support secured to the frame and having a spring seat, whereby the vertical force supports the carrying member, an external impact through the guide rollers is divided into vertical and lateral forces, and the lateral force is absorbed to decrease a shaking of the elevator car.

Abstract: An elevator system includes an elevator car with a plurality of roller guide assemblies attached thereto. The roller guide assemblies guide the elevator car vertically within a hoistway along a plurality of guide rails. Each roller guide assembly includes a friction damping subassembly to minimize vibration and lateral movement of the elevator car. The friction damping subassembly includes a grounding bar and a friction damper attaching onto a shaft of each roller in the roller guide assembly. The friction damping subassembly dissipates energy and improves the ride quality of the elevator car.

  • Patent number: 5944144
Abstract: A traction drive elevator system preferably comprises a pair of vertical tracks, a car, and at least one counterweight for supporting at least a portion of the weight of the car. A traction drive, which preferably includes a frame which is separate from the car, comprises two sets of drives, each including a large traction roller and a pair of smaller diameter counter rollers which are disposed on opposite sides of one of the tracks. The axis of the traction roller is horizontal preferably at a height midway between the axes of the counter rollers, and the counter rollers are moveable in a direction toward the track. Means, preferably an eccentric mounting in combination with a gas spring, urge the counter rollers towards the track, thereby creating friction between the rollers and the track. A motor and gear box, which preferably includes a worm and spur gear combination, selectively rotate the traction rollers for moving the car between landings.

  • Patent number: 5816369
Abstract: A method of installing roller guides in an elevator system so as to be centered on their respective T-rails. In the case of an elevator using either and active or semi-active roller guide system, the method uses the position transducers that are part of the roller guide to indicate how to reposition the roller guide after it is loosely bolted and approximately positioned on the elevator car. For an elevator not using an active roller guide or semi-active roller guide, the present invention temporarily attaches position transducers to the roller guide before bolting the roller guide to the elevator car. These position transducers are removed after centering the roller guide on the T-rail.
