Abstract: A brake-equipped retracting device (3) returns a liquid crystal display device (1) from a deployed position (1B) to a stored position (1A) using an elastic returning force of a spiral spring (18) that is wound up when the liquid crystal display device (1) is opened by the rotational force of a motor. A braking force for preventing the liquid crystal display device (1) from returning with too much force is applied to an input shaft (17a) of a reducer by having a rope (21) whose tensile force increases and decreases in relation to the opening and closing of the liquid crystal display device (1) be wound around a slip clutch (15) that is connected to the input shaft (17a). In emergency situations such as when the rope (21) breaks, a centrifugal grip (53) of a rotation-restraining mechanism (50) strikes an engagement notch surface (56b) on a fixed side, and the rotation of the input shaft (17a) is forcibly halted.

Abstract: A device (20) has an electrically-operated brake (37) and a manually-operated auxiliary brake (27). The electrically-operated brake includes a coil (70), a core (68), an armature (69), and an alternating series of friction pads (74) and brake disks (75), that are arranged to be compressed between the housing and the armature. The shaft brake (27) includes a collar (22) mounted on en the housing for combined axial and rotative movement relative thereto, a first interlock portion (106,110) mounted on the shaft (24), an annular member (84) surrounding the shaft and having a second interlock portion (85) and a spring (124) urging the member to move toward the shaft. The collar (22) is adapted to be selectively moved relative to the housing between a first portion at which the first (106,110) and second (85) interlock portions are physically engaged with one another, and a second position at which the first (106,110) and second (85) interlock portions are physically separated from one another.

Abstract: An asymmetric adjustment mechanism, a head piece (e.g., stethoscope head piece or audio headset) including such an adjustment mechanism coupled to an ear tip subassembly, and a stethoscope including such a head piece. In typical embodiments, the adjustment mechanism can be closed (e.g., to reduce separation between ear tips) by exertion of closing force on the ear tip subassembly, or opened by exertion of opening force on the ear tip subassembly. In some embodiments, it automatically locks (e.g., with a desired separation between ear tips) upon cessation of user-exerted adjustment force in a locked state in which it exerts no more than an acceptably small (e.g. zero) bias force on the ear tip subassembly. The bias force has magnitude less than that of the opening force required to separate the ear tips to remove them from the user's ears.

Abstract: The invention concerns a clamping and/or braking device with a housing, in which at least one plate-like element is held, supported at a first end opposite a stop area of the housing. A second end transfers clamping and/or braking forces to an object, or acts on a pressurizable element, which transfers clamping and/or braking forces to an object. The plate-like element has at least one bending area which is convex in the starting state, which is constructed pressure-resistant and nevertheless elastically deformable so that the bending area forms an elastic element between the stop area of the housing and a pressurizing end of the plate-like element. A pressure space is formed between the convex side of the bending area and the housing. Some embodiments include multiple plate-like elements.

Abstract: A parking brake for a commercial vehicle equipped with an air-operated service brake is configured in such a way that the actuating energy for the brake is reduced in comparison to a configuration with a spring brake cylinder, while the installation space in the wheel area is minimized. Primary functional parts of the parking brake include an inner race and an outer race, which delimit an annular gap. Displaceable tapered-roller bearings are located in the annular gap. To adopt a release position in opposition to the action of a compression spring, the tapered roller bearings are disengaged from the conical surfaces of the inner race and the outer race.
