Braking Torque Regulators Patents (Class 188/2A)
  • Patent number: 5730256
Abstract: A mechanical anti-lock braking apparatus for intermittently releasing pressure applied by a brake shoe to a wheel being braked includes a control member, a power input for causing the control member to rotate with the wheel around a rotational axis, and a control input for changing the position of the control member relative to a follower connected to the calipers or brackets to which the brake shoe is mounted. The control member and/or the follower has a shape which causes the follower to oscillate as the control member rotates, with the relative position of the control member and follower determining the magnitude of the oscillations.

  • Patent number: 4805741
Abstract: A torque-responsive brake, in particular for elevators, comprises two or more brakes arcs, brake shoes pivotally connected to the brake arcs and having attached brake linings and a brake actuating mechanism for pressing the brake linings against a drum. With prior art brakes, the starting of the elevator was not smooth enough or, alternatively, the types of apparatus by which smooth starting has been achieved were too complicated and expensive. By the present invention these drawbacks have been overcome in that, for pivotally attaching each brake shoe to its brake arc, a pivot shaft extends through the respective brake shoe and is connected to one end of a torque-responsive member, the opposite end of which is fixed to the respective brake arc.

  • Patent number: 4664233
Abstract: An antilock brake device for vehicles having a sensor which senses a possibility of locking of a wheel, during braking of the wheel, by an overruning of a flywheel which generates a release signal. A hydraulic pump having a cam shaft rotated in association with the wheel generates hydraulic pressure for antilock control. A gear unit as a transmission for transmitting rotation of the wheel at an increased speed to the flywheel comprises an input member located within and connected to a hub of the wheel, a ring gear formed on the input member, a planetary gear meshed with the ring gear and a sun gear meshed with the planetary gear. The planetary gear is secured to a cam shaft supported on a stationary casing. The flywheel of the sensor disposed within the hub is connected to the gear unit through a drive shaft. The sensor is supported on an axle extending through the hub.

  • Patent number: 4416353
Abstract: Method of and device for achieving an anti-locking effect while stopping the wheels of a vehicle. A tangential elasticity is created on the wheel being braked, while from the moment of locking the brake the wheel begins to perform cyclic pendulum-like rotations around its axis. The wheel being braked is affixed to the hub of the vehicle by elastic elements, for example springs. The elastic elements can be fixed in an intermediate ring, disposed between the crown and the central disc of the wheel, if the wheel is not built as an integral body, or in sockets formed in telescopically disposed flanges on members fixed respectively to the wheel disc and the hub of the vehicle, if the wheel is constructed as a single integral body.

  • Patent number: 4193479
Abstract: The arrangement for coordinated braking of the two wheels disposed in tandem on a vehicle includes in combination a first brake with friction linings situated at a fixed distance from the axis of rotation of the corresponding wheel, a second disk brake the friction pads of which are situated at a variable distance from the axis of rotation of the disk and a mechanism permitting the variation of the distance simultaneously with the clamping of the pads of the second brake against the disk.

  • Patent number: 4117909
Abstract: A torque controlled brake of the disc type has a caliper which is free to rotate about the axis of the wheel shaft. The caliper contains a rotatably mounted lever having disc pads which press upon the disc to provide the frictional braking force. The pads close onto the disc in response to rotational motion of the lever with respect to the caliper. This rotational motion is produced by a manually controlled brake lever on the handlebar of a bicycle. The rotational motion is restrained by a cable attached to the bicycle frame and to the lever, thus providing a negative feedback effect. The braking torque is dominated by the restraining force which bears a fixed ratio to the force applied by the manual brake lever. A limited manual braking force thereby determines the maximum braking torque.
