Divided Beam Patents (Class 188/53)
  • Patent number: 11091181
Abstract: A device for securing braking devices to a chassis frame of a rail vehicle forming a cross-member of the chassis frame that has a longitudinal axis, and includes at least two securing points for braking devices, wherein the securing points are spaced apart from the cross-member in a longitudinal direction which lies normal to the longitudinal axis, where at least one respective securing point is arranged at the end on a continuous brake carrier having an open cross section, where a connector is provided, via which the brake carrier is both connected to the cross-member and is spaced apart from the cross-member in a vertical direction to reduce the weight and so as not to simultaneously increase the warp stiffness of the chassis frame.

  • Patent number: 6932535
Abstract: A pivoting joint for pivotally joining a brake head to a brake beam of a railway car allows the brake head to modify its radial and lateral direction with a controlled degree of rotation with respect to a bogie wheel, allowing the brake shoe to adapt to the wheel contour, and achieving an adequate force distribution along the brake shoe, and thus optimizing the utilization of the brake shoe material.

  • Patent number: 6273219
Abstract: A brake beam assembly of the present invention includes an elongated beam disposed between railroad car truck sidewalls which carries brake pads at its ends, and is guided under power of an actuator between a standby and a braking position by a pair of pivot arms which swing in a pendulum-like fashion from pins mounted to the truck sidewalls.

  • Patent number: 5664478
Abstract: A spring break actuator (10) with a cast aluminum adapter (74) partially defining tandem spring brake and service brake portions has several corrosion fuses on the adapter. Each corrosion fuse is defined by a recessed or thinned area which does not compromise the structural integrity of the adapter.

  • Patent number: 4793446
Abstract: A single-cylinder, truck-mounted brake assembly for a railway vehicle truck in which low-cost, lightweight, truss-type brake beams are employed, with one beam having the single brake cylinder mounted thereon. Force-transfer levers pivotally-mounted to the respective brake beams at the beam-midpoint are interconnected by force-transmitting members that pass through openings in the bolster to move the brake beams into brake shoe/wheel engagement when a brake application is made. The brake rigging is set up so that the transfer lever bail imparted to the force-transmitting members is split. With respect to the force-transfer lever connected to the one force-transmitting member (brake cylinder), this has the effect of the brake cylinder piston skewing equally on opposite sides of the cylinder centerline to prevent piston seal leakage.

  • Patent number: 4729324
Abstract: A powered locomotive truck is disclosed, the truck having two wheelsets, each with an axle having a driving motor mounted thereon, the wheelsets being mounted in a rigid main truck frame, with freedom for relative yaw motion of the wheelsets, and each wheelset further having a steering arm or yoke movable with its wheelset during relative yaw motion of the wheelsets with respect to each other, the steering arms having an interconnection in a region between the wheelsets providing for interchange of yawing steering forces between the wheelsets.

  • Patent number: 4412602
Abstract: A braking system for a railway truck including a pair of brake assemblies, each adapted to brake the wheels on opposite sides of the truck. Each of the brake assemblies includes a pair of crank members pivoted on the truck with brake shoes to engage the wheels, a drive link with one end connected directly to one of the crank members and the other end connected to the other crank member through a motion reversing linkage, and a brake cylinder with a reciprocal brake rod pivotally connected to the drive link equidistant from its ends so that equal braking forces are applied to the wheels as the brake rod moves the drive link to pivot the crank members in opposite directions. A hand brake connection assembly is also disclosed to allow the crank members to be manually pivoted to brake the wheels.

  • Patent number: 4134343
Abstract: A radial axle railway truck has a pair of wheel and axle assemblies with profiled wheel treads of greater than conventional conicity to steer the assemblies by means of the differential effect of the inner and outer wheel diameters on curved track, the axle bearings are located inboard of the wheels, and the truck frame side members are correspondingly located inboard of the wheels and there supported on the axle bearings such that longitudinally acting resilient restraint means between the axle bearings and the truck frame resist substantial movements of the axles longitudinally of the truck frame while offering only limited resistance as a couple to steering movements of the axles with respect to the truck frame because of the relatively short transverse moment arm between the longitudinally acting resilient means.
