    Abstract: The tensile force sensor comprises at least one strain gauge in a tension piece comprising a central rectilinear segment and two folds at an angle, significantly thicker than the central rectilinear segment. The strain gauge is arranged in said central rectilinear segment in such a manner that a traction force on the fastening ends of the tension piece results in a U-shaped buckling of the central rectilinear segment. The invention also comprises a processing module connected to the strain gauge, adapted to detect and process as data the elastic deformations caused in the central rectilinear segment by the longitudinal stresses generated by traction on the fastening ends of the tension piece. The invention allows a portable and low cost wireless sensor to be produced.

When the driver depresses the brake pedal, pistons are forced into fluid chambers in the master cylinder. The resulting hydraulic pressure is transmitted through the hydraulic splitter and hydraulic lines to hydraulic caps which results the vertical movement of the brake pads causes a braking torque to be generated, slowing the rotation of the drive shaft and driven shaft simultaneously, which therefore decreases the speed of the vehicle.

    Abstract: The present invention is a fail safe motor brake for use with relatively large industrial motors, and particularly electric hoist motors as used with large overhead industrial cranes. The present brake includes an actuation linkage which results in relatively little change in the initial height or "air gap" of the solenoid plunger or armature, as the brake linings wear. The limited change in the air gap is due to a mechanical stop which is built into the adjustment and actuation linkage, as well as the clamping pressure provided by the spring arrangement which serves to actuate the brakes. The solenoid of the present brake is offset from the plane of the brake shoes, thus allowing removal and replacement of one or both shoes without need to remove the solenoid. This allows the brake shoes to be removed without need to readjust the actuation linkage. The present motor brake provides excellent performance throughout the life of the brake linings, without need to adjust the actuation linkage during this period.

    Abstract: A brake system for braking a shaft of an apparatus subject to runaway to stop runaway. The system comprises a brake drum on the shaft, one or more brake shoe(s) engageable with and disengageable from the drum, and a control member connected to the brake shoe(s) movable in one direction to a first position for applying the brake shoe(s) and in the opposite direction to a second position for releasing the brake shoe(s). The control member is biased to its first position for applying the brake shoe(s), and a torque motor is connected to the control member for moving the control member on energization of the torque motor to the second position and holding it there for release of the brake shoe(s). A device responsive to runaway of the apparatus for de-energizing the torque motor is provided, the control member being released on de-energization of the torque motor for applying the brake shoe(s) to the drum.

The drive system comprises a friction wheel and a friction track provided between the slide and the stationary slide guide. As the crown gear rotates, the tension rollers are forced in from a starting position where the distance is maximal and securely clamp the workpiece, which is located at the axis of rotation.

    Abstract: A restraining device for controlling the movement of a loaded strop 3 comprises a power-driven reel for the strop and an associated pair of toggle-controlled clamping jaws 14, 15 pivoted at 16 and 17 respectively. The controlling toggle comprises links 28 and 30 pivoted together at 31, the link 28 being pivoted to the jaw 15 at 29 and the link 30 being pivoted to a fixed point 32. The link 30 carries a pivoted hand-lever 35 for releasing the toggle and formed with a hook portion 42 which engages with a corresponding hook portion 44 on the link 28 to lock the toggle in the released position to free the strop. The lever 35 can be released either manually or automatically by the piston 37 of a pneumatic cylinder 38. When the lever is released, the toggle moves to the braced position where it assists the action of the spring 25 in holding the jaws together to grip the strop.

    Abstract: A chuck brake is secured to a hand-held reversibly rotatable drill of the variable speed type having a chuck. The chuck brake permits selective tightening or loosening of the chuck by operation of the drill. Brake shoes surround and are adapted to engage at least a portion of the peripheral surface of a housing of the chuck, being secured to the front of a drill on opposite sides of the chuck. The brake shoes are manually engageable by pinching action of the user for movement between a first position permitting free rotation of the chuck housing and a second position providing friction between the brake shoes and a first area of the chuck housing. In the second position, rotation of the chuck housing in one direction is impeded, as for tightening. The brake shoes are shiftable also toward the drill to a third position in which increased friction with the chuck housing is provided to impede rotation of the chuck housing in an opposite direction, as for loosening of the chuck.

With the brake levers located in their braking position the latter, when subjected to load, are movable perpendicular to the direction of action of the brake springs, so that the air gaps of the choke coils can be reduced or increased in size, as the case may be.
