    Abstract: A clutch mechanism for selectively setting up or interrupting the delivery of a drive force in accordance with a direction and an amount of rotation of a shaft is disclosed. The mechanism includes a clutch gear rotated by the rotation of a motor. A slide cam is supported by a clutch shaft in such a manner as to be unrotatable relative to the shaft. Ratchet portions respectively provided on the clutch gear and slide cam are selectively coupled or uncoupled in accordance with the direction of rotation, thereby setting up or interrupting drive transmission. A cam portion is formed integrally with the slide cam and releases the ratchet portions when a pin is brought to a preselected position on a cam surface. A cam lever selectively moves the pin toward or away from the cam surface in accordance with the direction of rotation of the clutch gear. The drive source can be shared by a driveline for rotating a shaft to a preselected angular position and other drivelines.

    Abstract: A mechanical disconnect for the pedal operating rod of an attaching machine comprises a stationary trip slide having a downwardly inclined cam surface and a housing enclosing the trip slide and reciprocable thereon. The housing is connected to the clutch operating rod. The housing also includes a transverse trip spacer pin and a latch having a follower nose engaging the cam and a central L-shaped opening receiving the pin in the horizontal leg of the opening. A spring urges the latch toward the slide. When the pedal is depressed, the latch pulls down the housing so that the clutch activating pull down rod moves away from the clutch dog. Further downward movement of the pedal cams the latch away from the slide so that the spacer pin aligns with the vertical leg of the "L" permitting the housing to pop up and the pull down rod to engage a clutch dog.

The machining of the object takes place as a continuous guided operation during such a turning of the rotatable shaft which is separate from the turning thereof causing the holder to move axially.

    Abstract: A one revolution clutch assembly is provided which transmits the rotation of a normally rotating drive shaft to a driven rotating body through gears and which interrupts the rotation of the driven body when it has rotated through one revolution. The one revolution clutch assembly includes a drive gear mounted on the drive shaft and which meshes with a driven gear on the driven body. The driven gear is formed with a hiatus along part of its periphery, and when the hiatus is located opposite to the drive gear, the rotation of the driven gear is interrupted. The driven gear is maintained in this position where it ceases to rotate, by a cam mounted on the driven assembly and formed with a notch which is engaged by a movable piece of an electromagnetic plunger. A crank lever has its one end rotatably mounted on the driven assembly, and imparts a rotating force to the driven gear to cause a meshing engagement of the driven gear with the drive gear when the driven gear is located at said position.

    Abstract: A single revolution clutch in a reduction gear in a franking machine is designed to avoid fraudulent operation and double cycling and for economical production by arranging a worm to drive a split worm wheel having a gap in each arcuate row of teeth respectively on the first and second worm wheel parts. Before operation, the worm rotates in the gaps. On release by a detent of a shoulder a spring brings a tooth into mesh with the worm which rotates the first worm wheel part until a lost-motion connection is engaged bringing the second worm wheel part into mesh with the worm to drive an output shaft. The detent is released by an electrical pulse then guided by a cam track to engage the shoulder arresting the first worm wheel part while the second part continues so as to stress the spring and return to the initial position with respect to the first part.

    Abstract: A self-releasing pawl and ratchet clutch is described that is particularly suitable for use as a single revolution clutch in a self-processing camera. At the end of one revolution of the clutch, the pawl is uncoupled from the ratchet wheel by a translatable and pivotable clutch release finger. The finger is spring biased towards a first position and includes a ramp at one end thereof that is locatable in the path of the pawl to stop the pawl from further rotation with the ratchet wheel. In the process of stopping the pawl, the finger is translated from the first position and held by the pawl in a second position against the bias of the spring. After the pawl is unseated from its interdental seat on the ratchet wheel the finger is restored by the spring to the first position. An enlarged tooth formed on the ratchet wheel forces the pawl to be moved generally radially outwardly along the ramp so that the pawl is held away from the tips of the smaller teeth of the ratchet wheel.
