Including Surface Characteristics Of Clutch-element Patents (Class 192/70.14)
  • Patent number: 11919097
Abstract: A reciprocating saw includes a housing assembly and a motor positioned within the housing assembly. The motor includes a pinion. A drive mechanism is positioned within the housing assembly and includes a gear driven by the pinion, a hub coupled to the gear, a spindle, and a connecting rod. A clutch assembly is coupled to the drive mechanism to selectively transmit drive force form the gear to the hub. The clutch assembly includes a first disk coupled to the gear, a second disk coupled to the hub, a biasing member, and a threaded fastener. The biasing member is positioned between the hub and the gear to bias the first and second disks into frictional engagement. The threaded fastener extends through the gear and threadably engages the hub to couple the hub to the gear. Tightening the threaded fastener pulls the hub toward the gear to preload the biasing member.

  • Patent number: 10190681
Abstract: A protection control selection unit is provided. The protection control selection unit selects control that uses one of a completely engaging heat generation amount and a releasing heat generation amount, by which the amount of heat that is generated in a lockup clutch is reduced. The completely engaging heat generation amount is generated in the lockup clutch in a period before the lockup clutch is completely engaged from a state of lockup engagement control. The releasing heat generation amount is generated in the lockup clutch in a period before the lockup clutch is released from the state of the lockup engagement control. Thus, an increase in the temperature of the lockup clutch at the time when the lockup clutch is completely engaged or released from the state of the lockup engagement control is suitably suppressed.

Abstract: Three external tooth wet friction materials are each composed of an external tooth plate and a lining adhered to one surface thereof along an entire circumference. Three internal tooth wet friction materials are each composed of an internal tooth plate and a lining adhered to one surface thereof along an entire circumference. Then, the three external tooth wet friction materials and the three internal tooth wet friction materials are disposed side by side so as to constitute a multi-plate frictional engagement apparatus. A thickness of the internal tooth plate is made thinner in view of its good heat discharge capability, and the thickness of the external tooth plate is made thicker by that much.

  • Patent number: 7931134
Abstract: The disclosed clutch includes a reaction plate, a friction plate, a friction layer, at least one non-compressible member and a fluid lubricant. The friction layer has a coefficient of friction that is sufficient to prevent relative rotation of the reaction and friction plates when the friction layer is compressed by the reaction plate. Further, the friction layer has at least one groove. At least one non-compressible member is disposed in the at least one groove to prevent further compression of the friction layer by the reaction plate. The at least one non-compressible member is mechanically fastened to the friction plate.

  • Patent number: 7919165
Abstract: In a wet-type friction material, a ring-shaped friction material substrate is compressed and fixed on a surface of a core metal by heat-pressing by a manufacturing metal mold. At the same time, a taper of an angle ? corresponding to a taper at an outer peripheral side of an upper mold is provided on an outer peripheral side of the ring-shaped friction material substrate. Thus, the taper is formed such that a thickness in a radial direction of the ring-shaped friction material substrate becomes smaller from a middle point toward an outer peripheral edge.

  • Patent number: 7886885
Abstract: The clutch of the present invention has a reaction plate, a friction plate, a friction layer, at least one non-compressible member, and a fluid lubricant. The friction plate is disposed adjacent the reaction plate for frictionally engaging the reaction plate to transfer a driving torque between the reaction plate and the friction plate when the compression force is applied. The friction layer has at least one groove. The at least one non-compressible member is disposed in the at least one groove for preventing further compression of the friction layer by the reaction plate. The at least one non-compressible member is adhered to the friction plate and a fluid lubricant is disposed between the reaction plate and the friction plate for providing a lubrication layer between the plates.

  • Patent number: 7845480
Abstract: A support structure for supporting a brake, as a frictional coupling device, includes a snap ring, a friction plate, and a back plate. The snap ring fits in a groove that extends in a circle. The back plate is disposed between the friction plate and the snap ring. The back plate is pressed against the snap ring. The snap ring has a first end face that faces the back plate and a second end face that faces the opposite side from the first end face and is in contact with a sidewall of the groove. The back plate has an end face that is in contact with the first end face. The static friction coefficient between the first end face of the snap ring and the end face of the back plate is smaller than that between the second end face of the snap ring and the sidewall of the groove.

  • Patent number: 7815028
Abstract: A friction clutch includes an iron inner clutch plate and two iron outer clutch plates. Each clutch plate has a sliding surface that friction-engages with the other clutch plates. A diamond-like carbon film containing silicon, which functions as a solid lubricant, is formed on the sliding surface of each outer clutch plate through a conventional method such as plasma chemical vapor deposition. The diamond-like carbon film contains 1 wt % to 80 wt % of silicon. A coupling device includes a pilot clutch mechanism that has the friction clutch and an electromagnetic actuator. As a result, the friction clutch has an improved resistance to wear, and the coupling device is durable.
