  • Patent number: 8683646
Abstract: A vacuum cleaner brushroll clutch having a motor, clutch assembly input rotated by the motor, brushroll, clutch assembly output to rotate the brushroll, drive clutch, and starter clutch. The drive clutch is connected to the clutch assembly output and moveable between a first position in which it does not directly contact the clutch assembly input and a second position in which it directly contacts the clutch assembly input to transmit a first torque directly from the clutch assembly input to the clutch assembly output. The starter clutch is connected to the drive clutch and moveable between a first position in which it does not engage the clutch assembly input and a second position in which it engages the clutch assembly input to transmit a second torque from the clutch assembly input to the drive clutch to move the drive clutch into the second drive clutch position.

Abstract: A coupling having at least two concentric rings, each having a circumferential surface and a recess, and at least two roller elements. The roller elements are each disposed in a channel formed by the circumferential surface of one of the rings and the recess of another of the rings. In some example embodiments of the invention, the coupling includes a coupling member with a bearing surface, at least one of the rings includes a split and the split ring is urged against the bearing surface when there is relative rotation between the rings. The coupling member is, for example, a shaft or a gear.

  • Patent number: 6044943
Abstract: A crankshaft decoupler has a mounting hub, a pulley rotatably mounted on the mounting hub, an annular carrier mounted within said pulley, a biasing device mounted therebetween, and a one way clutch mounted between the annular carrier and the pulley. The biasing device cushions the belt drive from crankshaft impulses and lowers the angular resonant frequency of the belt system. The one way clutch prevents sudden reversal of the belt tension in the drive due to start/stop of the engine or sudden deceleration of the engine and prevents momentary reverse slip belt squeal as a result of the tensioners' inadequate output for the reverse mode. The one way clutch limits the maximum amount of torque which may be transmitted preventing belt slippage during momentary overload.

  • Patent number: 5797473
Abstract: Winder shaft for clamping one or more cores onto one or more core carriers, which are arranged on the winder shaft alongside one another in the axial direction, and transmitting producing a torque to the core carriers for winding material to be wound, having means for the deliberate output of a radially outwardly acting force located in the winder shaft, whereby, as a result of the outwardly acting forces, one or more friction tongues (41) in each core carrier (1), can be pressed radially against the transmission element (5) of the respective core carrier to transmit torque thereto, which serves to drive the transmission element (5).

  • Patent number: 4813525
Abstract: A centrifugal clutch has a clutch drum and a strip therein elastically secured to a clutch center and transfers a driving torque by servo action. During normal torque transfer the strip drives in a pushing manner with servo action. Upon overload its driving point changes onto a shoulder provided with a pressure spring and the torque transfer becomes a pulling action with no servo action.

  • Patent number: 4662491
Abstract: In a vehicle clutch control apparatus having an actuator for operating a friction clutch and a controller for controlling the actuator, whereby a first data representing a semi-engaging zone is obtained by the controller just after the engine is started and the vehicle is driven to move, the apparatus has a data generator for producing a second data relating to the magnitude of the load of the vehicle and a unit for correcting the first data in accordance with the second data. As a result, data representing the actual semi-engaging zone of the clutch depending upon the load conditions of the vehicle at that time can be obtained, so that it becomes possible to realize an appropriate semi-engaging operation even when the load of the vehicle has changed.

  • Patent number: 4627266
Abstract: A spindle press of the type in which an inertial mass controls the clutch connecting a continuously rotatable flywheel with the spindle and is effective when the ram is retarded to decouple the spindle from the flywheel. The control unit is provided directly on the ram and the mass is arranged so as to be movable at least with its principal component of movement in the working direction of displacement of the ram, thereby excluding from significance any distortion of the spindle and the spindle nut drive between the ram and the flywheel.

  • Patent number: 4459121
Abstract: A torque limiting clutch having a torque limit which is easily calibrated and relatively constant throughout the service life of the clutch. The clutch includes a pair of rotatable members which are rotatably coupled by resilient friction members yieldably engaging one of the pair of members and securing to the other of the pair of members. The friction elements are configured to achieve substantially uniform friction force and wear along their friction surfaces. According to one embodiment of the invention standard commercial snap rings may be employed as the friction elements.

  • Patent number: 4341294
Abstract: A spiral type one way clutching assembly and mechanism is provided herein which is insensitive to transverse forces; substantially eliminates overrunning frictional wear on the critically shaped surfaces of its members; and substantially eliminates the role of chance in establishing the clutching load distribution between its members. The clutching mode may be active or passive. The clutching mechanism utilizes monolithic annular outer and concentrically positioned annular inner body members which have mutually opposed tangentially congruent spiral surfaces defining a spiral race therebetween. The spiral race is provided with inner and outer abutments. At least one of the inner and the outer body members have a radially directed slit extending therethrough. The outer body member and the inner body member are relatively rotatably oscillatable with respect to each other.

  • Patent number: 4252208
Abstract: A motor vehicle and a method of operation thereof. The method and apparatus relate to motor vehicles having an internal combustion engine for driving the vehicle and a flywheel coupled to the engine for equalizing the non-uniformity of the engine output torque. In accordance with the invention, at operating conditions wherein both the engine does not drive the vehicle and the flywheel rotates above a predetermined minimum speed, the coupling between the engine and the flywheel is automatically interrupted and the engine is stopped. Upon termination of these operating conditions, the flywheel is re-coupled to the engine to restart the engine. The coupling is preferably a controllable clutch arranged between the engine and flywheel, and the interruption of the coupling between the engine and flywheel is controlled as a function of one or more parameters representative of the operating state of the vehicle.
