Abstract: The object of the present invention is to provide an electromagnetic friction connecting apparatus, which allows the easier operations associated with the installation of an exciting coil or a search coil in a core element. Input and output terminals having second horizontal parts extending in the vehicle inward direction and second vertical parts extending from the ends of the second horizontal parts into the radial outward direction are provided for the exciting coil and the search coil. Each end of the second vertical parts is situated radially inside a periphery surface of the exciting coil. Holes which allow the respective ends of the second vertical parts of the input and output terminals to face the outside are made on the core element and the housing. They are connected to the ends of the second vertical parts of the input and output terminals by inserting couplers into these holes.

Abstract: Two sensors are provided on a clutch core. Sensor coils are driven at a high frequency by a high-frequency driving circuit. As the sensors sense a magnetic flux of a magnetic circuit including the clutch core and an armature, the impedance of the sensor coils changes. In accordance with the outputs from the sensor coils at this point, an impedance detecting circuit detects the impedance of the sensor coils. Then, an impedance combining circuit combines the impedance of the sensor coils. On the basis of the combined impedance, a current control circuit controls a current supplied to an exciting coil. Thus, the attracting force of the armature to the core excited by the exciting coil is controlled.

Abstract: A clutch assembly comprises an outer race and an inner race defining a gap between the inner and outer races. One of the inner and outer race includes a plurality of cam surfaces, and one of the inner and outer races is tapered toward a first end of the clutch. A plurality of tapered rolling elements are positioned between the races along the cam surfaces such that the rolling elements wedge between the inner and outer races to prevent relative rotation. An axially moveable retainer interconnects the rolling elements and is biased toward the first end of the clutch, wherein each of the rolling elements wedge between the inner and outer races. An actuator selectively moves the retainer axially away from the first end such that the tapered rolling elements no longer wedge between the inner and outer races, thereby allowing relative rotational movement.

Abstract: A coupling for a vehicle includes a pilot clutch 15, a main clutch 13, a pressing system 21 and a coupling mechanism 17. The pilot clutch 15 generates a pilot torque and is operated by operating means 19. The main clutch 13 connects torque members 11 and 9 and transmits transmitted torque. The coupling mechanism 17 operated by the pilot torque converts the pilot torque into a pressing force for coupling the main clutch 13 via the pressing system 21 by use of a cam thrust force thereof. The main clutch 13 is disposed outside the pilot clutch 15 in a radial direction, and respective members of the pressing system 21 are mutually positioned and designed to move unitarily in a pressing direction, thus sliding portions caused by the main clutch 13 is connecting and disconnecting are limited to being on a side of the main clutch 13.
