    Abstract: A clutch cover assembly including a clutch cover having a plurality of circumferentially spaced tabs around its inner periphery and radially inwardly projecting projections intermediate such tabs, a diaphragm spring having a plurality of slits aligned with the tabs, each of the tabs passing through a slit, a pair of wire rings on opposite sides of the diaphragm spring, the ends of the tabs passing through the slits being bent around the wire ring at one side of the diaphragm spring to engage such wire ring with one side of the diaphragm spring and to clamp the wire ring at the other side of the diaphragm spring between the diaphragm spring and the inside of the clutch cover and a removable spacer ring between the inside of the clutch cover projection and the diaphragm spring to hold the diaphragm spring compressed on the inside of the cover.

    Abstract: A clutch cover assembly comprises an annular cover attached to a reaction plate, an annular pressure plate rotationally coupled to and axially movable relative to the cover and axially acting elastic means bearing on the cover and continuously urging the pressure plate away from the cover. The cover is circumferentially divided into separate sectors. Means are provided whereby one of the sectors overlap another. For each sector, the overlap means comprise at least overlap lug constituting an extension of the sector in one circumferential sense. This is at least locally superposed on and attached to the immediately adjacent sector in the aforementioned circumferential sense.

    Abstract: A modular unit for use with a fluid engaged spring released and a spring engaged fluid released fan clutch including an outer hollow hub which terminates in a radially extending annular friction flange with an annular flange connected to the outer hollow hub for connection with a live shaft. Also provided is an inner central hub mounted internally of said outer hub by means of a pair of bearings. The inner central hub terminates in an enlarged central portion which in turn terminates in a radially disposed circular wall portion terminating in a series of right angular flanges. An annular piston is provided which is slideably mounted on the enlarged central portion of the inner hub. A ring is provided having a series of fan blades extending therefrom and connected to the circular wall. The piston has a friction facing carried thereby.

    Abstract: The present invention is a device for securing a shaft or the like in a hub, wherein an annular groove is provided on the shaft or in the hub to accommodate an elastic securing ring of round cross-section. A shoulder is provided on the hub or shaft radially facing the annular groove and the hub or shaft has an adjusting member displaceable in axial direction with a conical face axially facing the shoulder. This face together with the shoulder forms an annular recess widening towards the opening of the groove. The floor of the annular groove on the side of the adjusting member is at a radial distance from the shaft or hub at least as great as the thickness of the securing ring.

    Abstract: A rotary actuator having an output drive rod mounted within an output sleeve that is rotated by a drive motor. A driving mechanism for coupling the torque of the drive motor to the output sleeve includes a worm wheel that is mounted on the output sleeve so as to be freely rotatable relative to the output sleeve and a driving portion for transmitting power from the worm wheel to the output sleeve. A clutch also is mounted on the output sleeve for rotation with axial movement along the output sleeve. The clutch is normally biased into its first position for engagement with the drive portion of the drive mechanism for coupling it to the output sleeve for transmitting rotational force. A declutch mechanism causes the clutch to be moved of engagement with the drive portion, if the drive portion ceases to operate and the output sleeve is to be rotated by a hand wheel.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to an automotive transmission for an industrial vehicle. The main shaft of the transmission gear is hollow and internally splined to be slidable along and synchronously rotatable with an externally splined input shaft. Upon removal of a snap ring which holds at least two gears and a synchronizer (disposed between the gears) in place on the main shaft and the removal of a lock pin which interconnects the main shaft and the input shaft, the main shaft can be slid toward the clutch allowing the gears and synchronizer to be slipped, one by one, off the end of the main shaft and readily replaced with new units.

    Abstract: A disc brake of the type including a stationary supporting member, a pair of friction pads supported on the supporting member and slidable in the direction of the axis of a rotatable disc, a caliper supported on the supporting member and slidable in the direction of the axis of the disc, a piston provided in the caliper for acting on one of friction pads to urge it against one surface of the disc, and a pad spring disposed between the caliper and the friction pads. The other of the friction pads is mounted on the supporting member such that the pad can be removed from the supporting member by displacing the friction pad and the caliper on the supporting member a predetermined distance past the normal operational range. The pad spring engages with the supporting member and with the other friction pad thereby limiting the displacement of the other friction pad with respect to the supporting member.

    Abstract: A modular steering clutch and brake pack for use in a vehicle power drive system. The clutch pack and brake pack comprise independent assemblies with a carrier removably disposed therebetween. The brake pack is removably bolted to a first housing and the clutch pack is removably bolted to a second housing. The brake pack includes a plurality of brake plates and the clutch pack includes a plurality of clutch plates. The carrier further defines a mandrel for maintaining alignment of the brake plates and the clutch plates during adjustment thereof in the make-up of the clutch and brake assembly. Suitable bearings are provided on the carrier for journaling the brake pack and clutch pack. The carrier may be splined to selected plates of the brake pack and clutch pack and to the output shaft of the power drive system.

    Abstract: A fluid coupling adapted to be attached to a pulley assembly which includes a pulley member and a hub having a set of external threads. The fluid coupling includes an output coupling member, an input coupling member rotatably disposed within a fluid chamber containing a volume of viscous fluid whereby torque is transmitted from the input coupling member to the output coupling member in response to relative rotation therebetween. The input coupling member includes an input shaft having a boss portion adjacent the rear surface of the output coupling member. The boss portion defines a set of internal threads for threaded engagement with the hub. The boss portion also defines a radial aperture and the output coupling member defines a slot disposed radially outward from the aperture and adjacent thereto.
