  • Patent number: 6142286
Abstract: A floor cover for use in conjunction with conveying equipment for persons located at an end of an escalator, moving walkway or the like, has one or more cover elements which can be walked on and which flushly close off, relative to the surrounding flooring, the opening of an under-floor space in which operating equipment is typically located. The cover elements can be lifted and laterally displaced to expose the opening for access to the operating equipment. The cover elements are separably joined together at joint locations. A resilient profile member is located at each joint to prevent the generation of noises and to provide a tight seal between the cover elements against penetrating dirt. The cover can be raised, laterally displaced and rotated away from the opening by means of a multi-part hinge. The turned-up cover elements can, with a support device, be retained in a raised position to form an entry barrier for the exposed opening.

  • Patent number: 6138819
Abstract: A sectional article transfer assembly for receiving articles stripped from the conveying surface of a moving conveyor belt. The article transfer assembly includes, as a first piece, a transfer edge member having a base portion lying on and supported by a support frame and a belt-abutting portion that extends from the base portion to closely abut the conveying surface of a conveyor belt as it passes around a sprocket. The belt-abutting portion can have fingers or a beveled straight edge, for example. The transfer edge member mates with a second piece, a transfer plate member, which has a recessed portion that overlaps and mates with the base portion of the transfer edge member and a flat top article-transfer plate continuous and coplanar with an upper surface of the transfer edge member to form an extension of the conveying surface of the belt along which articles arc conveyed.

  • Patent number: 6068107
Abstract: A transfer device for transferring objects, including pedestrians, between sequential moving-surfaces disposed in a common plane. The device comprises first rollers housed in a platform and defining a first object bearing-surface disposed substantially in the common plane. In one embodiment, the rollers comprise balls; in another, they comprise cylinders. A plate mounted on the platform defines a comb that slidably meshes with ribs of a conveyer belt that defines one of the moving surfaces. Second rollers are housed in the plate, providing a second object bearing-surface. The platform pivots within a limited and adjustable angle towards and away from one of the moving surfaces, when an object becomes jammed between the platform and the moving surface, and slides perpendicularly to said angle, by a small amount, when the ribs force the comb laterally.

Abstract: Safety apparatus for use at the exit portion of a moving conveyor, such as that used by novice skiers, wherein at least one plate is pivotally mounted adjacent to the exit portion and is resiliently urged to an upper position so that when a sufficient force is applied to the plate, the plate moves and the pivotal movement actuates a control switch to stop the conveyor. The exit end of the plate has a plurality of spaced apart teeth located in arcuate grooves in the arcuate front surface of an egress platform so that the arcuate pivotal movement of the teeth is concentric to the arcuate grooves and arcuate front surface. A roller may be located between the plate and the exit portion of the moving conveyor.

Abstract: A safety device for use in an escalator or moving walk for detecting stuck objects. A fine high-strength flexible wire is positioned through all the comb teeth and the skirts. • Patent number: 5611417
Abstract: An apparatus for stopping passenger conveyors, such as escalators and moving walkways having at least one comb plate, responds to movement of the comb plate due to an applied force to actuate a safety switch. The apparatus exerts a static trigger force on the comb plate which trigger force has horizontal and vertical components. The comb plate is movable horizontally and vertically against a static trigger force when the applied force exceeds one or both of the horizontal and vertical components. The trigger force is set by a biased trigger spring pivotally mounted on a carrier plate for the comb plate and acting at an adjustable angle relative to the horizontal plane permitting selection of the ratio of the horizontal component to the vertical component. The angular position can be reset manually within a certain angular range through engagement of detent notches on an abutment attached to the comb plate and detent pins connected to the trigger spring.
