  • Patent number: 6889813
Abstract: A controlled material transport method for carrying materials to and from workstations, test equipment, and processing and assembly tools in a common facility. The present invention includes a rigid “robot vehicle” mountable to a passive track system, which can be routed to service all processing tools on the factory floor. The robot vehicle includes a hoist assembly and gripper assembly, which together perform such functions as picking up magazines, placing magazines, and loading magazines into the processing tools. The hoist assembly is capable of functioning in an operational envelope, which includes any target location within a 3-axis Cartesian coordinate system, to the extent of the range of motion of the hoist assembly. The hoist assembly also provides rigid and controlled z-axis travel, while being compact when retracted. The gripper assembly facilitates loading of the magazines, especially chute style magazines, which are commonly found on many existing processing tools.

  • Patent number: 6702099
Abstract: A work conveying system eliminates gravitational deflection of an extended articulated arm of a vertical mover. The conveying system includes a horizontal mover which carries the vertical mover and a work holder for delivering a workpiece to various apparatuses without dislocation. In conveying a workpiece horizontally, the vertical mover folds compactly to minimize air disturbance. Plural arm elements of the articulated arm overlap and are connected together in an alternate manner at their respective end portions, and the articulated arm is extended and contracted by pivotal movement of the arm elements, driven by a single drive unit. The horizontal mover is movable in an arbitrary horizontal plane within the upper ceiling space within the clean room. Shafts in the articulated arm and a rotary drive unit in the work holder have hollow interiors which are intercommunicated and at a negative pressure.

  • Patent number: 6666320
Abstract: The invention comprises a slat conveyor for handling ice cream products (6) which are immersed for some time in processing vessels. Each slat (9) in the conveyor consists of an upper part (33) supported at a fixed height in the frame (40) of the machine and a lower part (34) that may be lifted and lowered by means of a lifting beam (41). The lower part (34) of the slat is supported by individually coupling and uncoupling means (44, 48). The means (44) are connected with the lifting beam (41) and the means (48) are connected with the frame. By activating and deactivating the means (44, 48) together with the lifting beam (41) it is possible to keep the products (6) in a raised position or in a lowered position throughout one or more successive operations. Hereby the process period may easily be varied and the slat conveyor can readily be adapted to different products just by changing the programming of the control unit for the coupling means (44, 48) and the lifting beam (41).

Abstract: A container pick and return system is provided having a two-tiered flow rail conveyor system that includes an inclined upper set of feed flow rails forming an input conveyor assembly and a lower set of inclined return flow rails forming an exit conveyor upon which a unit load may roll. At the front end of the system is a transfer conveyor assembly that receives a loaded container. The line worker may then operate a damper control pedal that permits the container to be positioned at any desired angle greater than the angle of the input conveyor. This permits enhanced accessibility of the contents of the container regardless of the height or arm length of the line worker or the size and shape of the container contents. When the container is emptied by the line worker, the transfer conveyor assembly is triggered and the empty container is automatically lowered and transferred to the exit conveyor where it rolls down the exit conveyor to the rear of the system for reloading.
