Conveyor Has Independently Movable Load Supporting Portions Patents (Class 198/370.03)
  • Patent number: 11715977
Abstract: A system and method for providing power to independent movers traveling along a track in a motion control system without requiring a fixed connection between the mover and a power source external to the mover. In one embodiment, a sliding transformer transfers power between the track and each mover. In another embodiment, an optical transmitter transfers power between the track and an optical receiver mounted on each mover. In yet another embodiment, a generator includes a drive wheel engaging the track as each mover travels along the track. A power converter on the mover receives the power generated on and/or transmitted to the mover to control an actuator or a sensor mounted on the mover or to activate drive coils mounted on the mover to interact with magnets mounted along the track and, thereby, control motion of each mover.

  • Patent number: 7779986
Abstract: In a transfer system used for transferring articles that are conveyed on a main conveying path to branching conveying paths, change-over guiding sections of change-over units have an upper guiding body and a lower guiding body and the change-over action of the upper guiding body is caused by the motion force of an article side-push body in the direction of a main conveying path, and the change-over action of the lower guiding body is caused integrally in the second half of this change-over action. As a result, a sufficient change-over guiding length in the change-over unit can be ensured and change-over can be performed smoothly via both guiding bodies at all times.

  • Patent number: 7690496
Abstract: A diverter is for intended use in connection with a diverter conveyor for diverting articles moving in a conveying direction from a first path of travel to a second path of travel. The diverter includes a guide mounted for relative movement thereto from a first position adjacent one side of the diverter corresponding to the first path of travel to a second position adjacent another side of the diverter corresponding to the second path of travel. A magnetic coupling is formed between the diverter and the guide for maintaining the guide in either the first position or the second position. A selector may be provided as part of a switch for switching the guide between the first and second positions. Related aspects include a conveyor incorporating the diverter and methods of use and manufacture.

  • Patent number: 7641039
Abstract: A positive displacement article sorter and method of monitoring a positive displacement article sorter, wherein the article sorter includes a frame, an endless web traveling in a longitudinal direction about the frame and an electric motor driving the endless web. The endless web is defined by a pair of continuous chains and a plurality of cross members connected at opposite ends with the chain. The positive displacement sorter includes a plurality of pusher shoes, each laterally traveling along at least one of the cross members. A sensing assembly is provided that has first and second portions. The first portion of said sensing assembly is positioned at the web. The second portion of said sensing assembly is positioned at a stationary location. The first portion of said sensing assembly is sensed with the second portion of the sensing assembly as the first portion of said sensing assembly travels about the frame. A parameter of the web is determined from an output of the sensing assembly.

Abstract: A conveyor system for sorting items that are supplied in a random sequence via a feeding conveyor, and including sorting means (4) arranged in a row for directing the items to specific receiving positions at at least one side of the sorting means (4). The sorting means (4) are constituted by relatively short individually driven belt conveyors (4) which are pivotably suspended on mainly vertical turning shafts (8), and which at a foremost end part (5) project in over a next belt conveyor (4) in the row, and where at the foremost end part (5) and at a distance to the rear, the pivotable belt conveyor (4) is designed with as low a height as a foremost reversing roller and a reversing roller disposed at a distance to the rear of the foremost roller. By means of simple technical measures it is possible to counteract the drawbacks of corresponding prior art conveyor systems and to achieve further advantages that are very essential and new.

  • Patent number: 7537106
Abstract: Disclosed are conveyors and methods for making the conveyors. In one embodiment, a conveyor comprises a modular conveyor belt that includes a plurality of mat-top chains having a plurality of cavities and a plurality of first rollers disposed in the cavities of the mat-top chains. The conveyor further includes at least one second roller that operatively couples to the first rollers such that the first rollers rotate as the conveyor belt travels along the second roller. The invention can also be construed as providing the method for conveying objects. The method can comprise the steps of driving a modular conveyor belt in a direction of belt travel; rotating a plurality of first rollers disposed into the modular conveyor belt in a manner in which slippage of the first rollers is reduced; and conveying objects on the modular conveyor belt using the rotating first rollers.
