  • Patent number: 6484379
Abstract: Plastic conveyor belts made up of modules interconnected by transverse rods and capable of straight or radius travel are adjusted as to minimum radius the belt can traverse by restricting collapsibility at the inner edge of the belt. This can be accomplished using shims in the slotted apertures of link ends, preventing full rod travel in those apertures, at each row or at alternating or selected rows of the belt; or shims otherwise placed in the belt to prevent full collapse; or by using different modules in certain rows, with less collapsibility; or by substituting different edge modules in belts of multiple modules per row. In this way, a basic radius conveyor belt can be defined, with a relatively tight minimum radius, and then can be modified so as to be custom-fitted to spiral conveyor or other belt systems having specific curve radii which are larger than the radius of the basic belt.

Abstract: An endless conveyor belt has a plurality of link members interconnected so that the conveyor belt is movable along a path (22) curved essentially in the plane of the conveyor belt and also about a guide roller whose axis is parallel to the plane of the conveyor belt. Product carriers (17) are supported successively by the link members and are essentially rigid in the plane of the conveyor belt; however, they are movable, together with the conveyor belt, about the guide roller. Each product carrier is longer, in the longitudinal direction of the extension of the conveyor belt, than each link member.

  • Patent number: 5954187
Abstract: A conveyor belt having a drive mechanism and specifically rod and side link connections in the belt. The belt includes a plurality of pivotal link members by which the belt can collapse or extend along a side edge to follow a curved path. One end of each of the link members along the edge of the belt that engages the drive mechanism is formed into a hook-shape. The belt also includes a plurality of transverse rod members. At least one end of each rod is headless and is captured within the hook-shaped end of a link member. This results in the hook-shaped end of the link member engaging the drive mechanism, with the rod end being secured to the link member within the hook-shaped end of the link.

  • Patent number: 5803236
Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement for a conveyor chain with identical links (A, B. C). These are mutually operatively connected in such a way that two links (A, B; B, C) arranged adjacent to one another are capable of pivoting relative to one another about two mutually orthogonal axes, of which a first axis is perpendicular to the upper surface (1) of the link. The chain is able in this way both to run over a guide pulley and to follow a curved path. In order to permit flexibility in the curved path, gaps (6) are present between the links (A, B, C), the width of which gaps increases up to a certain limit on the convex side of the curved path, and decreases on the concave side as the radius of curvature of the chain path decreases. Each link (A, B, C) has a recess largely parallel with the upper surface (1) and essentially in the form of a slot. Arranged so as to run in which recess is at least one essentially disc-shaped element (8; 8a, 8b), the purpose of which is to cover the aforementioned gaps (6).

The frame supports a modular conveyor belt made up of a series of rows of belt modules hingedly interlinked end to end into an endless conveyor belt capable of articulating about a drive sprocket and of fanning out in a turn. Selected rows of the belt include belt edge structure forming a recess inward of the belt edge and opening onto the edge. A roller is rotatably disposed in the recess. The roller's outer rotatable surface extends from the recess outward of the belt edge to engage the railing at the inside of a turn in low-friction, rolling contact.

  • Patent number: 5598916
Abstract: Modular conveyor belt links have edge structure for occluding exit of pivot rods from the edge of the belt during operation of conveyor belts formed from pivotably connected end-to-end links. The links feature belt edge structure with an outer pivot rod entry aperture offset from the axis of aligned link end pivot rod holes in one set of link ends thereby forming a pivot joint axis. When the pivot rod is forced from the belt edge into the offset aperture and headed toward the pivot joint the plastic link is elastically deformed enough to permit entry of the rod. For example, an occlusion barrier wall disposed near the belt edge retains the rod in the pivot joint. A matrixing nest for the end of the pivot rod resident in its axial joint site is formed in the link material. From this nest the rod can be removed only by forced distortion of a rod end by a force greater than those forces encountered in the course of normal belt operation.
