  • Patent number: 6748602
Abstract: This invention relates to a novel design of decorative, detachable/attachable magnetic collar stay devices to be used on the collars of sports shirts. The magnetic portions of the device are arranged so that the top portion and bottom portion of the device have opposite polarities from each other. The bottom portion is enabled to receive collar stays of various lengths. The outward surface of the top portion has a relatively flat surface enabled for the affixing of a decorative element.

  • Publication number: 20030209576
Abstract: A stay is provided for a shirt collar having transverse tubes formed integrally at respective ends of the collar. The stay comprises an elongate stiffener body and hook means for engaging fabric material of the shirt collar as the stiffener body is slidably inserted into a respective transverse tube of the collar. The hook means resists sliding movement of the stiffener body relative to the transverse tube of the shirt collar in a reverse direction after insertion to ensure that the stays do not fall out of the tubes as the collars are handled in the interim before assembly onto a finished garment. The hook means are particularly useful for resisting sliding movement between the stays and the knitted tubes of a knitted collar because the hook means readily engages the chained loops of threaded material forming the tubes in knitted collars.

  • Patent number: 6167732
Abstract: For a selected collar stay, i.e., 0.375 inches in width, for a shirt knitted with selectively sized wales, i.e., 0.10 inches in width, a pocket for the stay also knitted but with selectively narrower wales, i.e., 0.025 inches in width, so that predictably a number of wales, i.e., 14 in number, produces a width of the pocket approximately equal to the width of the stay to minimize movement of the stay within the pocket.

  • Patent number: 6105166
Abstract: A new collar guard system for preventing shirt collars from being soiled, thus reducing cleaning bills and extending the life of shirts. The inventive device includes a first layer of water impervious material with an adhesive on one side for attaching the layer to the collar of a shirts. A second layer of non-woven, moisture absorbent material is attached to the first layer for absorbing moistures from the user's neck. A tapered spacer member is attached to the second layer so as to slightly space the second layer from the user's skin. The first layer, second layer, and spacer member can be disposed within a washable fabric protective cover so as to form a core thereof. A slot is provided on the cover through which the core can be inserted and removed, and a tab is attached to the core so as to facilitate insertion and removal of the core.

  • Patent number: 4989269
Abstract: In shirt collars having neckbands, an improved shirt collar comprises more than one soft layer disposed on the inside of the neckband, each soft layer being arcuately smaller than the neckband and a space exists between a pair of soft layers. Thereby, the soft layer reduces pressure on the neck of the wearer and gives the neckband durability. A tendency for the soft layer to bunch up and wrinkle is substantially reduced by the presence of the space between layers.

  • Patent number: 4980927
Abstract: Disposable adherent collars based on low cost supple sheets carrying a low-adherency pressure sensitive adhesive are disclosed. The adherent collars of the present invention are significantly more comfortable to wear than prior art adherent collars due to the suppleness of the sheet used in the collars, and to the low-adherency character of the PSA, achieved preferably through the use of a discontinuous layer of PSA material. Because of the suppleness of the sheet the low-adherency adhesive is effective to hold the sheet in place.

The shape retaining collar device in the garment construction includes a first fabric portion which is attachable to the torso covering segment and which is generally non-exposed to a viewer. This first fabric portion may be in the form of a band for attachment to the garment and extending outwardly from the first fabric portion is a second fabric portion in the form of a collar which essentially forms a neckline for the garment. Moreover, the second fabric portion terminates in a pair of edges which are forwardly presented to a viewer of the collar. A channel is formed within the second fabric portion for receiving a collar stay and a channel is also formed in the first fabric portion for receiving an integrally formed tab on this collar stay.
