  • Patent number: 6971122
Abstract: Worn flat on the forehead as a headband, the Sweat Diversion Band diverts perspiration from the upper forehead and away from the eyes using laminated neoprene. Laminated neoprene is a commercially available, low cost, off-the-shelf material. Laminated neoprene possesses the required capillary and hydraulic properties to absorb liquid perspiration on the forehead, and laterally divert the liquid perspiration to cylindrical outflow lengths bending downward behind the ears. The ends of the headband are folded extensions of the laminated neoprene and provide an optional means to secure the headband to the head. The top of the Sweat Diversion Band features an angular cut through the entire cross-section of laminated neoprene. Sloping toward the head, this feature facilitates absorption of the liquid into the inner wicking fabric worn against the skin. Liquid perspiration is then transported and eliminated below the ears.

  • Patent number: 6694524
Abstract: A device for preventing make-up and other materials from rubbing off onto sweaters and garments that are tried on by customers before being purchased. The present protection device is in the shape of a hood that covers the entire head, including the face, of a wearer. The protection device includes a rigid support in the back and an inexpensive semi-transparent material in the front. The rigid support provides structure to the protection device making it easy to handle, protects the hair of the wearer, and prevents hair gel and other material from being transferred to garments. The semi-transparent material in the front allows the user to breathe and still be able to see, so the wearer can locate armholes and other important areas of the garment. Attachment straps are used to secure the device in place around the wearer's head. The present hair and garment protector is preferably made of inexpensive materials so that the protector can be a disposable device.

Abstract: An ear covering for protecting the ear against fluids entering the ear canal, chemical bums from hair treatment products, cuts or nicks from scissors or razors used by hair stylists, and bums from curling irons or hot air from overhead type hair dryers, can have a membrane shaped to enclose a human ear and an entirely elasticized opening on one side which can be expanded to insert the membrane over the ear to retain the membrane thereon. The membrane can also include a portion near the tragus of the ear having an adhesive disposed thereon for sealing the protective covering against the ear. The membrane can be larger than the ear to provide insulating space between the membrane and the skin. The membrane can be made from a generally flexible and water resistant material and can be generally permeable to sound.

  • Patent number: 6298493
Abstract: An ear protector dimensioned and configured to secure over the user's ear, protecting the ear from the harmful effects of hot curling irons and blow dryers. The ear protector has a three layer construction having a cotton fiber or cotton fabric exterior, a Teflon® or a similar type material located in the center and a cotton or soft batting in the interior. The three layer construction acts as a heat shield which protects the user from receiving painful burns. The cotton batting inner covering is attached to the outer covering via stitching. An elastic band is secured to both the inner covering and outer covering adjacent to the stitching and secures the ear protector safely over the user's ear. Alternatively, a draw string can be used in place of the elastic band to secure the ear protector over the user's ear. In addition, aesthetically pleasing indicia is placed upon the outer covering of the ear protector such that a certain style or charm is added to the practicality.

  • Patent number: 6237157
Abstract: The present invention involves two heat resistant ear caps attached to a continuous flat woven cord. The caps are designed to protect the ears from burns during the treatment of hair with heated cosmetology curling irons, hot rollers, and dryers. The heat resistant ear caps are uniquely constructed to hook over the auricle (top) of the ears into a defined depth of the caps. The caps comprise an outer heat resistant fabric, an inner webbing and cotton denim fabric fused together. The unique construction is created by simultaneously stretching and sewing elastic between two defined points located on the fused fabrics thus creating a semi-circle opening with a defined depth which hooks over the ears. The outer edges of the semi-circle opening with a defined depth are covered and enclosed by a cotton lycra strip. The two caps are attached to a flat woven cord which adjusts underneath the chin by use of a manufactured cord lock.

  • Patent number: 6216278
Abstract: A hair covering for protecting the hair of a wearer from damage due to exposure to the ultra violet light of a tanning bed. The hair covering is comprised of an outer portion, middle portion and inner portion. The middle portion protects the hair of a wearer from discoloration and other damage because of exposure to the ultra violet light of a tanning bed. Furthermore, the middle portion acts as a barrier to the heat build up that can occur within the hair covering because of the heat generated by ultra violet light in a tanning bed. The outer portion and the inner portion act as additional protection for blocking the heat generated by the ultra violet light of a tanning bed. The hair covering may also have a stretchable band for providing a comfortable and snug fit around the head of a wearer.

  • Patent number: 6047706
Abstract: A head bathing system for haircare. The system is composed of an outer cap having a head-receiving aperture, an inner, absorbent liquid-holding layer, and a flexible gathering for the cap at the aperture. The liquid-holding layer is impregnated with a cleansing solution. To clean a person's hair, the system is applied to the person's head, which is massaged through the cap to cause the cleansing solution to wet the person's hair. After sufficient cleaning, the system is removed from the person's head. Because of the nature of the liquid-holding layer, it reabsorbs much of the cleansing solution before the system is removed from the person's head.

  • Patent number: 6029364
Abstract: The combination hair dryer cover and head shield is for use with a hood-type hair dryer and is useful for protecting the forehead, features and neck of the user from excess heat being emitting from the hair dryer. The apparatus comprises a hood cover and a head shield which are stitched together around the perimeter of a common seam. The apparatus will protect uncovered portions of the patrons' head from heat energy from the hair dryer. The shield cover and the hood cover are each made of a clear plastic material. The hood cover is secured onto the hood by an elastic band and the shield is retained onto the head of the patron by another elastic band. The hood cover can be readily separated from the head shield along perforations disposed about the perimeter of the head shield proximate to the head shield elastic band positioned about the hairline of the patron. Once separated, the hood cover is discarded, the head shield can thereafter be used as needed.
