Abstract: The present invention provides a universally applicable orthosis such as a hip orthosis and includes a semi-rigid hip engaging unit that can be easily bent for attachment to a user's waist. A semi-rigid thigh support member is also easily bent for attachment to either the right or the left thigh of a user. A closure unit enables the user to provide a compressive force on the waist with a mechanical force advantage. The hinge unit extends between the hip engaging unit and the thigh unit to stabilize the limit of the extension and rotation of the thigh relative to the waist of the user. Although the waist engaging unit and the thigh support member are relatively flexible when they bend about the user, they are structured to become rigid to provide stable anchor points for the hinge unit.

The holders are preferably adapted to hold or containing various items that are often used by healthcare workers in the course of their routine. For example, at least one of the holders can be a pouch fabricated from a lightweight, durable and flexible material. Preferably, the entire belt is fabricated from a generally, lightweight, durable and flexible material. In addition to pouches, which can hold or contain items of various size, shape etc., one or more of the holders can be adapted to hold specific items. For example, at least one of the holder can be a bottle holder. A belt for use by a person requiring care, supervision or oversight (for example, a child or a patient of diminished capacity) includes a strap to encompass a portion of the body of the person.

The strap includes a first end and an opposite second end, a tightening mechanism slidably coupled to the strap, the tightening mechanism configured to adjust a length of the strap, and at least two coupling mechanisms coupled to the strap. A first of the at least two coupling mechanisms is coupled between the first end and the tightening mechanism, and a second of the at least two coupling mechanisms is coupled to the strap second end. Abstract: The present invention provides a system, method of manufacture and method of use that provides for an easily changeable costume system that allows for quick costumes changes without having to entirely undress and allows for the purchase of add on decorative items to allow for costume changes without having to buy an entirely new costume. According to a preferred embodiment, an interchangeable costuming system is disclosed comprising: a washable foundation with a plurality of first ends of an attachment device fixedly attached; and at least one non-washable decorative cover with at least two second ends of an attachment device fixedly attached. The second ends of the attachment device are intended to removably attach the non-washable decorative cover to the washable foundation so as to provide a washable garment with a non-washable decorative cover. Additional decorative items may be added on.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for rapidly restraining a person's limbs are disclosed. The inventive apparatus includes a pair of cuff modules, each with three rigid loops positioned on their outer surface, and a cuff interconnect having a flexible elongated body sized and configured to fit through the rigid loops, that is attached to one of the rigid loops on one of the cuff modules. When the cuff modules are applied to the person's limbs, the interconnect body is threaded through the other rigid loops and around the person's midsection, such that the interconnect body surrounds the person's midsection from front and back and forms two tension zones, one at each of the cuff modules to significantly restrict the range of motion of the person's first and second limbs. Optionally, the cuff modules may include releasable connectors to releasable connect to corresponding external stationary restraints.

Abstract: An auxiliary thigh-to-pedal power system for bicycles, especially attractive for persons interested in low cost, non-polluting, auto traffic avoiding, energy conserving transportation is disclosed, significantly increasing the total force the cyclist can apply to the pedals for each gear ratio. The system attaches to a conventional bicycle while requiring no attachments such as toe clips, cleats or straps to the elements of the bicycle. It allows uninterrupted force to be applied to the pedals throughout the 360° pedaling cycle, the downstroke being maintained on one pedal while the upstroke is being performed on the other pedal. Unlike prior art upstroke utilization schemes, mounting and dismounting can be performed in a safe manner identical to that for a conventional bicycle, and standup cycling is allowed. Hook and loop attachment material and a snap hook are utilized in adjustably coupling the thigh with the inner end of the pedal.

A primary strap with a slip-resistant surface is configured for adjustable encircling attachment to the limb. The slip-resistant surface directly engages the limb and includes material that resists slippage of the strap longitudinally along the limb. A secondary anchoring member attached to the strap is configured to detachably retainably engage and hold a catheter or other elongate or tube-like member in a desired position relative to the strap. Abstract: A novel form of belt is presented where the two ends of the belt can be attached directly to a wearer's clothing instead of the belt closing on itself like a conventional belt. Two fastening means such as commercially available vest-clips are attached to the two extremities of a flexible length of belting material. A buckle or other adjusting means may be provided for varying the length of the wrap belt. In use, the wearer first attaches one end of the belt to a selected position on her article of clothing; she then wraps the belt around her torso one or more times; finally, she fastens the other end of the belt to a second selected position on her clothing. She may adjust the length of the belt before, or during or after wearing the belt.

Abstract: A back support comprising a back support belt having flaps with fastening material for releaseably securing the flap ends in overlying relationship. Side pulls extend from the back portion of the support belt and also are provided with fastening material for securing the ends of the side pulls to the support belt and to each other. The side pulls are formed of overlying inner and outer portions in a known manner. The support belt has mounted thereon quick lock release buckles for attaching to the back support accessories, such as a standard apron having waist ties. The quick lock release buckles have male and female halves and pass through type securements on the separable halves. Preferably one of the securements is a double pass through type on the male halves in order to provide adjustability in securing the waist ties of a standard apron. Another feature of the invention is the provision of a means for holding the side pulls adjacent the secured flaps when the back support belt is mounted on a wearer.

The pump is adapted to pump fluid from the user to the drain bag upon the receipt of a drain signal. Further provided is a pressure switch for detecting when the drain bag is full. A control mechanism serves for transmitting the drain signal to the pump only when the means fails to detect that the drain bag is full.

Abstract: A garter belt for supporting heavy stockings which cover protective leg gear worn by a hockey player. The garter belt includes a preferably elastic elongated waist engaging belt and a plurality of spaced apart garters each connected at an upper end thereof to, and downwardly depend from, the waist belt. Each lower end of each garter includes a first strip of fastener material formed of the hooked portion of two part VELCRO hook and loop fastener. A second strip of hooked fastener material is connected at its upper end to a mid portion of the garter and positioned to face and be generally coextensive and aligned with the first strip. The first and second strips straddle the stocking opening and are separable for releasible engagement against both inside and outside stocking surfaces just below the stocking opening. At least two garter strips at the front and back of each leg are preferred.

Abstract: A load supporting waist belt comprising four separate articulated sections including front and rear belt straps and right and left hip pieces with adjustable connectors on the front and rear belt straps allowing adjustment for waist size and location of hip sections squarely on the wearer's hips. Accordingly, the compressed upper portion of the boot may be easily inserted into a pants leg and concealed therewithin.

The container comprises an expandable and collapsible bellows (11) with an open top, and a flap (18) hingeably attached to an outer side of the container. The flap stretches across the open top and down the inner side of the bellows. A long piece of hook-and-loop fastener (19) is attached to the inner side of the bellows, while a short piece of hook-and-loop fastener (20) is attached to the distal side of the flap. Therefore, when the bellows is fully collapsed, the distal side of the flap may be attached to the lower side of the long fastener. When the bellows is fully expanded for carrying a large number of sports cards, the side of the flap may be attached to the upper side of the long fastener.

The pocket has an opening along one edge that may be sealed with a condom in the pocket and unsealed to remove the condom from the pocket. In some embodiments the liquid-impermeable pocket is mounted directly to the inside or the outside of the loop, and in others the loop has a primary pocket inside or outside the loop, and the liquid impermeable secondary pocket fits into the primary pocket. The liquid impermeable pocket has a user-operable seal along one edge that may be opened to insert a condom and closed to contain the condom without leakage of any liquid placed in the liquid-impermeable pocket along with the condom. The user-operable seal is a quick-release seal that may be operated to open with one hand, typically with pressure from one or two fingers.
