Abstract: A device and method for sensing fluid characteristics, including level, temperature, pH and chemistry, comprises a switch affixed to or embedded in a container of a size, shape and density such that said container floats stably in said liquid until a predetermined level is reached; the container tilts so as to operate the switch when the liquid drops below or increases above a predetermined level. The device may contain additional sensors which measure and report other characteristics of the liquid, such as temperature, pH, viscosity, chemistry or biochemistry.
Abstract: A device for warning when a low fluid level is reached is provided in which a levelness detecting switch is encapsulated in a conically shaped inert material (such as TEFLON.TM.), sized appropriately to the predetermined fluid limit, and coupled to an alarm device (such as an audible alarm, a frequency signal or a light).
Abstract: A system for dispensing hazardous fluid particular suitable for gasoline service stations utilizing an electrical impact sensing switch mounted upon each dispenser wherein the contacts of the normally open switch close upon impact occurring at the dispenser and the switch controls a primary electrical circuit energizing the pumps providing pressurized fluid to the dispenser whereby impact forces de-energizes the pumps minimizing to actuate alarms and alert personnel of the impact.
Abstract: An electrical tilt switch comprises a closed housing having an annular geometry and made of insulating material. In the closed housing thee is positioned a first annular electrode and at least a second annular electrode spaced from the first annular electrode. A pool of conducting liquid is disposed within the housing so as to immerse one electrode without immersing the other when the switch is in a horizontal position. Upon tilting the switch to a preselected angle, the pool of conducting liquid immerses two of the electrodes and therefore closes the switch.
Abstract: An assembly or kit to enable the individual automobile owner to drain and change engine oil conveniently and economically at regular intervals without the necessity of visiting a service station and encountering higher cost. A compact package suitable for displaying in supermarkets, department stores and the like contains all the elements necessary to drain engine oil in a clean and convenient manner and to add new oil to the engine. The packaged components include an easily erectable drain receptacle and liner, a strainer and a funnel, with integral foldable supports for the strainer on the receptacle.
Abstract: An inertial switch device, for installation in an electrical circuit of an automotive vehicle, to signal excessive rates of acceleration, deceleration and turning for the purpose of preventing abusive driving which wastes gasoline. The switch device comprises a housing having a closed chamber with a concave bottom surface containing a globule or drop of mercury and a plurality of circular contacts supported therein so that the drop of mercury successively contacts them when a momentum force causes the drop of mercury to climb a side of the dish. The circular contacts are of increasingly larger diameter as the drop climbs the side of the dish with increasing inertia and are arranged in circuit-closing relation to a warning signal device, either audible or visible.
