Plug Controls Switch Patents (Class 200/50.31)
  • Patent number: 10073119
Abstract: A monitor can be installed in the terminal block having a monitor access opening. The installed monitor allows for current measurement without having to disconnect a wire from the terminal block. Similar monitors can measure voltage, detect ground loops, and provide continuous readings of circuit parameters. Embodiments can positively hold probe tips, transmit data over wires, or transmit data wirelessly. Make-before-break monitors allow parameters to be measured without ever breaking the monitored circuit. Break-before-make monitors allow the monitored circuit to be interrupted and then reconnected with a monitor in place.

  • Patent number: 9267522
Abstract: A lock pin assembly is provided. The lock pin assembly is structured to coupled a panel board device to a panel board. The panel board device includes a body defining a number of mounting passages. The lock pin assembly includes an elongated body, a first radial extension, and, in an exemplary embodiment, a biasing device. The lock pin body is rotatably disposed in the panel board device mounting passage. The lock pin body is moved between an unlocked, first radial position, wherein said first radial extension does not engage a panel board back plate mounting tab, and a locked, second radial position, wherein said first radial extension engages a panel board back plate mounting tab.

Abstract: A portable device has an electric motor connected to a housing with a female electrical socket, an electrical power cable with a male plug and an electrical safety device. The safety device has a first element borne by the male plug and a second element located within the housing. The second element has a locking element to lock an activation element for activating the motor in a deactivated position. The first element of the male plug is configured to engage with the locking element to free the activation element to activate the motor.

Abstract: An interlock arrangement allows a floating neutral electrical generator having a receptacle, such as a duplex receptacle, absent GFCI protection to be used to provide electrical power to the electrical system of a home or other building during utility power interruption. The interlock arrangement includes structure to disable or prevent access to the duplex receptacle when the electrical generator is coupled to the power cord used to transfer electrical power from the generator to the electrical system of the building. Thus, the duplex receptacles cannot be used to power electrical devices when the generator is connected to supply power to the electrical system of the building. Conversely, when the generator is physically disconnected from the electrical system of the building, the interlock arrangement exposes or supplies power to the duplex receptacles, and may be configured to close access to the receptacle used for connecting to a building electrical system.

  • Patent number: 8098119
Abstract: A protection switch includes a plurality of single-pole protection switch modules in a mechanically coherent unit forming a multi-pole protection switch configuration. Each module includes a housing, a switching arm, a moving contact on the switching arm pivotably movable against a fixed contact between closed and open positions, a manual operating mechanism for adjusting the switching arm between the closed and open positions and a tripping mechanism for automatically resetting the switching arm into the open position upon a tripping condition. The manual operating mechanisms of all modules are coupled so that the modules are only switched jointly. The tripping mechanisms of all modules are coupled so that the tripping mechanism of each also trips all others. A one-piece coupling is insertable between adjoining modules for both mechanically fixing the modules to one another and coupling the manual operating mechanisms and the tripping mechanisms of the adjoining protection switch modules.

  • Patent number: 8004283
Abstract: An arc fault circuit breaker includes a panel having a first side and an opposite second side, a housing coupled to the opposite second side of the panel, separable contacts, an operating mechanism structured to open and close the separable contacts, and a trip mechanism cooperating with the operating mechanism to trip open the separable contacts. The trip mechanism includes a test circuit structured to simulate a trip condition to trip open the separable contacts, and a proximity sensor disposed on or within the housing proximate the opposite second side of the panel. The proximity sensor is structured to sense a target to actuate the test circuit when the target is disposed proximate the first side of the panel and opposite the proximity sensor.

  • Patent number: 6900400
Abstract: An apparatus having an enclosure, at least one circuit breaker and at least one plug receptacle, in particular on ships to supply containers with electrical energy, the circuit breaker being arranged in the enclosure and the plug receptacle preferably being arranged on the outside of the enclosure. An interlocking of the circuit breaker and the plug receptacle is designed such that the circuit breaker can only be switched on when the plug receptacle is occupied and at the same time, it is only possible to remove a plug from the plug receptacle when the circuit breaker is switched off.

  • Publication number: 20020112945
Abstract: A socket provides power to a mating connector plug when actuated by a switch integral with the socket. The switch can be actuated by insertion of the connector plug, by pivoting open a socket cover, by sliding a slide cover into an operational position, or by a combination of the above. The switch is isolated from the power supplied to the socket and acts as a power supply signal to enable socket power. The socket is powered only when needed as indicated by the actuation method, thereby reducing draw on a power supply connected to the socket. The switch actuation methods described also provide safety features by disabling power to the socket unless the socket is actually in use. The socket cover and slide cover also prevent access to the socket unless positioned to receive a connector.

  • Patent number: 6314236
Abstract: A hair dryer having a heater, a fan positioned to form an air flow that is heated by the heater, a battery and a switch connected in circuit with the fan and the battery. An interlock prevents the switch from closing during the time the hair dryer is inserted in a base for charging the battery and heating the heater via an electrical power source. An arc prevention assembly prevents arcing among contacts on the hair dryer and the base during insertion and removal of the dryer to and from the base.
