  • Patent number: 9482517
Abstract: An optical position-measuring device includes a measuring standard as well as a scanning unit movable relative to it along at least one measuring direction, a scanning beam path being formed between the measuring standard and scanning unit and being used to generate displacement-dependent signals. A protective cap is disposed in a manner allowing movement along an axis perpendicular to the measuring-standard plane such that in at least one operating mode, the protective cap for the most part surrounds the scanning beam path between the scanning unit and measuring standard.

  • Patent number: 7863531
Abstract: Techniques for making high voltage connections are disclosed. In one particular exemplary embodiment, the techniques may be realized as an electrical switch. The electrical switch may comprise a component extending from a first electrical contact to a second electrical contact. The component may also comprise a non-conductive section and a conductive section. In a first mode of operation, at least a portion of the non-conductive section may be positioned between the two electrical contacts to insulate the two electrical contacts. In a second mode of operation, the conductive section may be positioned between the two electrical contacts to connect the two electrical contacts.

  • Patent number: 7424996
Abstract: A wire rope pre-failure indicating device that can be installed at any location along a length of conventional wire rope of the character used in many industrial applications. The indicating device reliably functions to provide a pre-failure warning that the wire rope has been loaded beyond a specified magnitude. The indicating device also provides a pre-failure warning that the swaged fittings, which interconnect the indicator to the wire rope, have undesirably slipped.

  • Patent number: 7348507
Abstract: A cable foul sensor is provided for detecting a cable foul condition of a hoist or other cable reeling device. The cable foul condition may be sensed independently of the cable layer on a hoist cable drum. The cable foul sensor allows a cable foul condition to be detected before the cable mis-wrap caused by the foul condition extends outside of the envelope of the drum. The cable foul sensor may include an actuator having a first part and a second part disposed to form a passageway that receives a cable. At least one switch is disposed on the actuator. If the cable contacts at least one of the first part and the second part, the at least one of the first and the second part actuates the at least switch to control a winding operation of the cable.

  • Patent number: 6828917
Abstract: An alarm system for a casting mold is provided, which includes an alarm electrically connected to the casting mold; and at least one sensing unit electrically connected to the alarm, and spaced apart by a predetermined gap from a cast to be drawn from the casting mold. During a drawing process, if the cast is formed with failure in appearance such as deformation, burr edges or uneven thickness, the cast drawn out of the casting mold would come into contact with the sensing unit and thereby induce the alarm to generate an alarm signal to notify an operator who may immediately solve any operational problems.

  • Patent number: 6501040
Abstract: A dual directional cable actuated emergency stop device has two shaft assemblies attachable to two respective cables spanning along an industrial and/or manufacturing operation. The first shaft assembly is slideably disposed within a housing structure and movable relative to said housing structure along a first path in a direction parallel to an axial centerline of said shaft in response to a force exerted by a cable attached to an end of said first shaft. The second shaft assembly is slideably disposed within said housing structure and movable relative to said housing structure along a second path in a direction parallel to an axial centerline of said shaft and opposite movement of said first shaft, in response to a force exerted by a cable attached to an end of said second shaft.
