    Abstract: A container is provided for the storage and sampling of aqueous samples, such as deionized water samples. The container comprises an enclosure with an open mouth portion that is sealed via a needle penetratable septa. The septa overlies the mouth and seals the enclosure from the outside atmosphere. The septa comprises a foil layer adjacent the mouth that provides a border between the enclosure and the outside atmosphere and a Teflon layer adjacent the sample. A silicone containing layer of the septa is provided intermediate the foil layer and Teflon layer. A cap member may be provided that is detachably and sealingly engaged to the container covering the mouth. A CO2 adsorbent material may be provided in the space existing between the mouth of the enclosure and a cap member.

    Abstract: A method of making a packaged antimicrobial suture comprising the steps of providing a containment compartment that is substantially free of an antimicrobial agent; positioning a suture within the containment compartment, said suture comprising one or more surfaces having an antimicrobial agent disposed thereon, said antimicrobial agent being selected from the group consisting of halogenated hydroxyl ethers, acyloxydiphenyl ethers, and combinations thereof; placing the containment compartment having the suture in an outer package; and subjecting the outer package, the containment compartment and the suture to time, temperature and pressure conditions sufficient to transfer an effective amount of the antimicrobial agent from the suture to the containment compartment, while retaining an effective amount of said antimicrobial agent on the suture, thereby substantially inhibiting bacterial colonization on the suture and the containment compartment.

    Abstract: This disclosure provides the first description of hESC-derived cells transplanted into human patients. Results are reported for one patient with each of Stargardt's Macular Dystrophy (SMD) and Dry Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). Controlled hESC differentiation resulted in near-100% pure RPE populations. Immediately after surgery, hyperpigmentation was visible at the transplant site in both patients, with subsequent evidence the cells had attached and integrated into the native RPE layer. No signs of inflammation or hyperproliferation were observed. The hESC-derived RPE cells have shown no signs of rejection or tumorigenicity at the time of this report. Visual measurements suggest improvement in both patients.
