  • Patent number: 10494164
Abstract: A dispensing system provides for the delivery of a contained substance sealed in a Dispensable Containment Vessel (DCV) into a target container, which can contain another substance. The dispensing system includes a dispensing adaptor (Dispensing System) that couples the DCV to the target container so substances can be transferred between the containers without escaping or contacting the user. When the DCV is activated from a secure conformation into a dispensing conformation, the dispensing adaptor sealably engages the target container and portions of the dispensing adaptor place stress on a barrier, which frangibly tears along defined tearing paths to form vents or flaps that are forced apart against the dispensing adaptor, allowing the contents of the DCV to enter the target container. The dispensing conformation also facilitates the efficient mixture of substances and allows them to travel between the containers to flush residual DCV contents into the target container.

The bone cement mixture may be made of a combination of polymer and liquid monomer, but because of the method of agitation, e.g., shaking the vial and its contents, the ratio of the monomer-to-polymer is critical. The vial or container may also include a free-floating, or disassociated, agitator to aid with the mixing process. To prepare the composition, the vial and its contents may be capped and shaken until the mixture dissolves completely. • Patent number: 5456929
Abstract: Liquid contents such as water are stored in a heat-resisting can body having an openable section formed on an upper part thereof. Other material is stored within the can body while being separated from the liquid contents and, when the can body is heated above a predetermined temperature with the openable section opened, the separation between the stored material and the liquid is removed and the liquid can come in contact with the stored material. When the openable section is closed while the can body is heated, the stored material is kept separate from the liquid even during a sterilizing process but, when the can body is heated with the openable section opened, the separation between the stored material and the liquid is removed, and consequently the contents are mixed together. This permits the stored material to be preserved from the liquid until the contents of the can body are ready for use.

  • Patent number: 5440976
Abstract: A sugar stick is provided to stir coffee until a desired sweetness is attained. The dispensing device for solid granular material is user adjusted from zero to a maximum by simply adjusting a movable cover, such as a sleeve or shutter to the indicated extent for the desired amount. The stirrer includes at least one dose separator disks attached to a central portion ending in an enlarged end section to be used as a handle, which fits into a perforated tube. The product granules, e.g. an artificial or natural sweetener, which are larger in size than the perforations, are housed in the spaces between the at least one separator disk. A transparent movable outer cover, such as a sleeve, encloses the perforations and seals them from contact with the liquid beverage. By pulling the movable outer cover up, the perforations corresponding to the desired level of sweetness dose can be easily exposed.

  • Patent number: 5419445
Abstract: A baby bottle 10 with two separate compartments for storage of powdered baby formula 104 and water 106. Water 106 is stored in a bottle portion 12 and baby powdered formula 104 is stored in a cartridge assembly 14. The cartridge assembly 14 consists of a housing member 16, a seal member 18, a storage cylinder 20 and a nipple assembly 22. Nipple assembly is attached to the top of storage cylinder 20 which is disposed through the top of housing member 16. Seal member 18 is attached to the bottom of housing member 16 and engages an opposing mating surface on the bottom of storage cylinder 20, thus providing a releasable connecting means to disconnect the seal member 18 from the housing member by allowing the seal member to be turned by the storage cylinder. The bottom of housing member 16 is attached to the top of bottle portion 12. Seal member 18 provides an internal leakproof seal that can be released by external means at a desired time by rotating nipple assembly 22.

  • Patent number: 5246670
Abstract: A pharmaceutical mixing container for storing a liquid having at least two factions which tend to separate during storage. A housing has an inner volume and is closed at one end by a septum arrangement and at another end by a slidable sealing member. A buoyant member is located within the housing and floats within the liquid faction of the pharmaceutical contained within the housing. By manually translating and rotating the housing, the buoyant member is forcibly moved along the liquid surface causing gentle turbulent waves which provide thorough admixing for the pharmaceutical constituents without causing mechanical damage to delicate constituents, such as crystalline factions found in NPH type insulin.

Abstract: An assembly for the mixing of two different products stored separately. The assembly comprises a first and second container, the first container having a neck and a body. The neck of the first container having a tearable cap and the body being responsive to manual pressure to effect the dispensing of the product from the first container after the cap is torn. A rigid second container has a neck to which a first cap is attachable. The first cap has an attachment member for cooperating with the neck of the first container and an opening extending therethrough. A removable second cap is attachable to the first cap to close the opening.

Abstract: A device comprising a generally cylindrical plastics container sealed at its ends and having an area intermediate said ends defined by one or more temporary seals, thereby dividing the container into two compartments and an intermediate area between the compartments, is provided. The compartment of the container adjacent to one end thereof contains a first material and the compartment of the container adjacent to the other end thereof contains a second material in which the first material is to be dispersed or dissolved prior to use. The intermediate area contains neither the first nor the second material and the temporary seal or seals is or are arranged so that it or they can be broken by finger pressure to permit communication between the outer compartments, thereby permitting mixing of the first and the second materials.
