The pack has a lid attached to the base for rotation between open and closed positions and a lid front wall having an inner surface. A lid front wall flap is folded relative to the lid front wall. A label is attached to said section and has a portion attached to the lid so that, when the lid is rotated into an open position, the section is lifted to open the extraction opening. The metallized film is then imprinted with ink with a design and/or printed matter on either the metallized or unmetallized surface. Subsequently to or concurrently with the printing, a heat seal layer is applied to the printed and/or unprinted surface for forming a heat seal about which the material is wrapped. In one embodiment, the high barrier packaging material is used as an overwrap for a cigarette package having a tear tape for removing one end of the overwrap.

Abstract: A high barrier sealable packaging material and a high barrier heat sealed package for smoking articles, such as cigarettes and the like, are disclosed. The packaging material comprises a base layer of a polymeric film, such as a biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film which has been metallized on one surface thereof with a layer of metal, such as aluminum. The metallized film is then imprinted with ink with a design and/or printed matter on either the metallized or unmetallized surface. Subsequently to or concurrently with the printing, a heat seal layer is applied to the printed and/or unprinted surface for forming a heat seal about which the material is wrapped. In one embodiment, the high barrier packaging material is used as an overwrap for a cigarette package having a tear tape for removing one end of the overwrap.

Abstract: An oral pouch that is constructed of an orally safe natural rubber material that can be packed with any brand or flavor of loose moist snuff, by the individual user. The pouch is sized using scissors for maximum comfort and fit, and once inserted between the lower gum and lip, serves as a barrier between the tobacco product and the lip and gum area, therefore reducing the direct physical contact of the tobacco product against the gum and lip. Abstract: The invention is directed to a packaging composite for barrier sealed cigarette or other smoking article packages. The composite includes a foil layer, exterior and interior skin layers of heat-sealable thermoplastic polymer, first and second biaxially oriented polypropylene homopolymer layers located between the exterior skin layers and the foil layers, and first and second adhesive layers coupling the polypropylene layers to the foil layer on each side thereof. The package laminate has a thickness of between 1.5 and 2.5 mils.

Abstract: In pouch packs for tobacco or the like of the "side-folding pouch" type, it is difficult to make a hermetic closure for the orifice of a pocket of the pouch pack, because accumulations of material impeding the provision of a closing seam or the like arise in the edge regions as a result of the construction of the pack. For this reason, the pouch pack is spread out to the full width of the blank in the region of the orifice for the provision of a closing seam, the closing seam is then made and the projecting lengths of material thus formed in the region of a covering tab are folded over inwards against the latter. This results in a pouch pack which is closed in an absolutely leak-proof manner and which has an essentially cuboid shape after completion.

The blank encloses the contents of the pack in a tubular manner, and the front ends overlapping at least partially interconnected flaps are folded in such a way that an inner longitudinal end flap rests against the contents of the pack. Two side end flaps are folded on these longitudinal end flaps, and the second outer longitudinal end flaps are folded on the side end flaps and the first inner longitudinal end flaps. The sides of the longitudinal end flaps facing toward each other and the edge region of the inwardly folded side end flaps are connected together in a sealed manner by means of a straight bonded or adhesive strip which extends over the width of the pack in the half portion of the front face facing toward the outer longitudinal end flap.
