  • Patent number: 6613036
Abstract: Light-protective container assembly for a light-sensitive fluid includes a translucent container defining an inner reservoir to contain the fluid, and a flexible sleeve connected to the container. The sleeve has a tubular configuration sized to substantially cover at least the reservoir of the container, and is made of a material capable of substantially preventing the transmission therethrough of an identified range of wavelengths from the electromagnetic spectrum. Preferably, the sleeve is made of a mixture of a base material and a colorant capable of substantially preventing the transmission of undesired energy through a predetermined thickness of the base. material. The sleeve is connected indirectly to the container by providing the container with at least one passageway therethrough, and by positioning the sleeve such that a first portion of the sleeve is on one side of the container, and a second portion is on an opposite side of the container.

  • Patent number: 6508800
Abstract: A dual-filled twin bag, a packaging including the twin bag, and a method for forming the packaged twin bags are provided. Each of two bags, a solution bag (10)and a drain bag (12) for a system used for a peritoneal dialysis procedure, are filled, at least partially, with a solution (14). A tubing set (16) connects the two filled bags (10,12) and may also be filled with solution (14) which is added to the bags (10,12) and the tubing set (16) during the manufacturing process. Alternatively, the tubing set (16) may be filled with air. The tubing set (16) is sandwiched between the solution bag (10) and the drain bag (12) and subsequently packaged in an overpouch (24). The method for forming the package including the bags filled with solution is simplified and the overall package size is reduced due to the sandwiched tubing set (16) between the solution bags (10,12) and the provision of solution in both bags (10,12).

  • Patent number: 6398051
Abstract: A package for tablet products that includes a container having an interior volume for holding the tablet products and a closure secured to a cylindrical finish of the container. A product hold-down device has an axially resilient central portion, a lower portion for engaging the upper surface of the product within the container, and an upper portion for securement within the container finish to hold the device in place within the finish, with the closure removed from the finish, against the axially resilient forces applied to the device by engagement of the lower portion with product in the container and resilient compression of the central portion of the device. Thus, the hold-down device can be inserted into the container and secured to the container using automatic packaging equipment, and the container closure then applied to the container. • Patent number: 5603997
Abstract: The present invention relates to a packaging material for reduced transfer from a package to its content of substances causing undesirable taste and/or hazardous substances, this reduction being due to the packaging material containing a hydrophobic zeolite. More specifically, the invention concerns paperboard, in which case the substances causing undesirable taste mainly are naturally occurring extractive substances, oxidation products thereof and, to a lesser extent, the paper chemicals present. Further, the presence of a hydrophobic zeolite in the paperboard enhances the water-repellent (hydrophobic) capacity. Also, the present invention concerns a method for production of a packaging material of paper, board or paperboard by forming and dewatering a suspension of lignocellulose-containing fibres, where the dewatering takes place in the presence of a hydrophobic zeolite.

  • Patent number: 5536469
Abstract: System employing a sterile medical solution containing glucose or glucose polymers, for example nutritional solutions or solutions for peritoneal dialysis, whereby the majority of the solution is packed in a first package, while the glucose or the glucose polymers are separately packed in a second package, whereafter the two packages are heat sterilized. The content of the glucose or glucose polymers in the second package is maintained above 10% by weight, preferably above 20% by weight and most preferably in the order of 40% by weight in order to reduce or totally eliminate the breakdown of glucose. The medical solution after sterilization, mixing and diluting to 1.5% glucose content has an absorbency caused by breakdown products from glucose at 228 nm less than 0.35 and preferably in the order of 0.20 or lower. The medical solution is also defined in that after sterilization, mixing and dilution to 1.

  • Patent number: 5390791
Abstract: A portable medicine carrier and protector for storing and transporting medicine stored in vials. The vials may be of different sizes. The medicine carrier and protector includes a hollow, thin walled medicine carrier. The carrier is substantially filled with a paraffinic hydrocarbon (C14-C18) such as Hexadecane, an alpha olefin (C14-C20), or a material such as Dimethyl Sulfoxide. A cavity is disposed in a top surface of the carrier. The cavity being formed from a plurality of different semi-circular compartments. Each of the compartments has a different cross-sectional radius. This allows the carrier to accept medicine vials of differing sizes. A plurality of solid ribbed members are disposed transversely in the cavity, so as to prevent direct contact between the carrier and the medicine vials.

  • Patent number: 5346061
Abstract: A treatment delivery system which uses a flexible plastic outer container and a smaller, readily burstable, thin film plastic inner container fixedly positioned in the outer container. The inner container contains a treatment solution and a dry foam appliance is loosely placed within the inner container. When the inner container is burst by applying pressure to the outer container at a position which corresponds to the position of the inner container therein, the treatment solution comes into contact with the foam appliance so as to be absorbed by, and to wet the appliance. The wetted foam appliance can then be removed from the outer container for use.

  • Patent number: 5161686
Abstract: Disclosed is an odor-absorbing, non-dusting porous web material and a method of making the same. The web material includes a porous base web (for example, a fibrous base web, such as a non-woven or paper web) having distributed throughout odor-absorbing particulate (such as zeolite). Alkaline salt or alkaline earth oxide particulate, to better effect removal of acidic malodor, desirably also is distributed throughout the base web, in the final product. The odor-absorbing particulate is bound to the base web (e.g., fibers of a fibrous base web) by a binding system, containing a binding agent. The binding system, in the odor-absorbing web materials, is transparent to the odors so as not to substantially effect the ability of the particulate to absorb odor-causing material.
