Patent number: 7188730Abstract: A screening system designed to provide separation of multiple fractions of New Screens Fines. News Screens Fines (“NSF”) contain a mix of compressed, unmarketable recyclables that are generally less than four inches in size created as a by-product of current Material Recovery Facility (MRF) plant designs used to process single-stream recyclables. The NSF separation system uses a series of primary and secondary classification apparatus to separate materials into marketable products that meet legislative requirements. A series of screens, conveyors and air moving systems are designed to separate waste from fractions of glass, plastic and ferrous metals that can be sold.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2003Date of Patent: March 13, 2007Inventors: Michael C. Patent number: 7104403Abstract: A two-stage static air classifier has a feed duct through which particles of a granular mixture fall. A classifying louver plate having fins forming upwardly inclined classifying channels is fitted into a side opening in the feed duct. Particles of a set size are drawn by air suction through the classifying channels in the first stage. A separator box having an inlet connected to the outlet of the classifying channels collects the separated particles in a second stage as the entrained particles fall by gravity to the bottom of the separator box while the air streams drawing the particles through the classifying channels pass out the top end of the box. Adjustable baffle plates transversely extending through the box permit control of the quantity of fines collected with the particles at the separator box bottom. Size of the collected particles is determined by the speed of a fan at the top outlet of the separator box.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2002Date of Patent: September 12, 2006Assignee: The Unimin CorporationInventors: David L. Stephens, Gerald G. Verret, Richard U. Lalancette

Patent number: 6953517Abstract: In order to make it possible for an inhomogeneous residue generated in a pyrolysis plant to be separated continuously and in as fully graded a way as possible, specially selected components are combined with one anther in an advantageous configuration. An essential element of the plant is the separation of a coarse residue in a coarse screen and the subsequent separation of the remaining residue in a zigzag separator into a light residue and a heavy residue. By use of the plant, in particular, the carbon-containing constituents are separated from the remaining residue. The individual components are mostly configured to be self-cleaning for fault-free operation.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2000Date of Patent: October 11, 2005Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Joachim Boretzky, Anton Ebert, Leonhard Teschers, Winfried Von Rhein, Helmut Werdinig

Patent number: 6329436Abstract: A system and process for recycling shredder residue, in which separating any polyurethane foam materials are first separated. Then separate a fines fraction of less than about ¼ inch leaving a plastics-rich fraction. Thereafter, the plastics rich fraction is sequentially contacted with a series of solvents beginning with one or more of hexane or an alcohol to remove automotive fluids; acetone to remove ABS; one or more of EDC, THF or a ketone having a boiling point of not greater than about 125° C. to remove PVC; and one or more of xylene or toluene to remove polypropylene and polyethylene. The solvents are recovered and recycled.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1992Date of Patent: December 11, 2001Assignee: The University of ChicagoInventors: Bassam J. Jody, Edward J. Daniels, Patrick V. Patent number: 6101853Abstract: A latch mechanism for a door has first and second latches, a handle, a first cam connected to the first and second latches, a second cam and a third cam connected to the handle such that movement of the handle operates the first and second latches by transmitting movement from the third cam to the first cam through the second cam. One or more rods may be used to connect the latches and or handle. The first handle may simultaneously operate the first and second latches. A second handle may also be provided for simultaneously operating the latches. The first cam includes a finger and the second cam includes a projection that is selectively engageable with the finger. Movement of the third cam causes movement of the projection which in turn causes movement of the first cam when the projection is engaged with the finger of the first cam. The first and second latches may be locked by disengaging the projection and the finger.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1998Date of Patent: August 15, 2000Assignee: Monaco Coach CorporationInventor: Devon L. Patent number: 4634522Abstract: An arrangement in machines for separating materials having different aerodynamic properties and employing an air current for actuating the materials.A sensor is located in the path of particles carried along by the air current, to generate electric signals in dependence on particles impinging the sensor. The sensor is operatively connected to a control for regulating the flow rate of the air current in order to obtain an air flow corresponding to a predetermined impingement intensity.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1985Date of Patent: January 6, 1987Assignee: Kamas Industri ABInventors: Thomas Edholm, Ulf Stahl

Patent number: 4160722Abstract: The plastic discarded in municipal solid waste is recovered by a process wherein the waste is reduced to a particulate mass having a liquid content of 20% or more such that the paper and other absorbent constituents retain sufficient liquid to be substantially heavier than the sheet plastic pieces of comparable size. The mass is then subjected to an air separation treatment wherein the plastic pieces are blown free of the paper and other constituents of the mass. In one form, the solid waste is first pulped in water to slurry form, some of the fiber is recovered from the slurry by screening, and the reject flow from the screen is dewatered and subjected to the air separation treatment. In another form, the solid waste is dry shredded and the high specific gravity materials removed prior to pulping. In still another form, the dry material is wetted sufficiently for effective air separation of the plastic.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1977Date of Patent: July 10, 1979Assignee: Black Clawson Fibreclaim, Inc.Inventor: Paul G.
