  • Patent number: 6773585
Abstract: The invention relates to a fluid separating device for separating fluids and solids from a composite liquid. Said separating device comprises a channel (12) which is arranged transversely upwards with a closed lower end and an outlet (19). Said channel is provided with an axial screw conveyor (14) which is arranged in the interior. A filter tank (22) communicating with said conveyor is located above the channel (12). An inlet (32) for the composite liquid to be separated is located at the upper edge approximately in the middle of the filter tank (22). A rotation filtering device (34, 70, 92) is arranged at the free end of the filter tank (22). Said device partially dips into the fluid contained in the filter tank (22). The invention provides a means for effectively separating a composite fluid into three different fractions, the clear liquid, a sludge fraction and a particle fraction.

A second substream contains lighter particles, entrained fines of the heavy particles, and a major portion of the liquid from the feed stream. The free-draining substream is dewatered using a device such as a screen centrifuge or a screw press, both of which produce a cake of relatively high solids content. The remaining liquid from the feed stream is concentrated in an evaporator, before being mixed with the dewatered solids which may be dried to produce an animal feed.

Abstract: The invention is a screening device suitable for screening a liquid material having solid matter suspended in it, which comprises a number of sets of discs, the discs of each set being rigidly mounted on a shaft, with the discs on each shaft being separated from one another axially, means mounting the shafts about parallel axes, with the discs of adjacent shafts being interleaved with one another and means to cause the shafts to rotate independently in the same rotational sense such that successive shafts rotate progressively faster to cause the solid matter suspended in the liquid material to be moved in a direction from the slowest shaft to the fastest shaft. The device is used particularly in sewage processing plants.

Abstract: A filtering system includes a filter drum assembly. The system includes a filter tank with a conveyor in the bottom which removes contaminants from liquid in the tank. The filter tank also has supports therein by means of which the filter drum assembly is removably supported in the tank and can be removed as a single assembly. The filter drum assembly includes a filtering drum located in the tank and supported by a suction pipe connected by a separable fitting to a suction pump. A drive shaft is vertically positioned above the drum and is rotatably supported by an end wall of the drum. The shaft drives a wiper arm having a wiper blade in contact with the filtering drum wall and the blade is periodically moved around the drum wall to clean filter cake therefrom. The wiper arm is driven by a one-way clutch, an arm, and a fluid-operated ram which is also supported by the suction pipe.

Abstract: Discloses transportable liquid clarifying and screw conveyor/compactor liquid-solid separator apparatus which includes a pressureable clarifier vessel portably mounted on a base with a top and sides converging to the bottom of the vessel for attachment to a sludge disposal apparatus. A sludge inlet enters the top of the vessel and extends to near the bottom of the vessel. An effluent discharge flow control valve is connected through a conduit in the top of the vessel to provide a designated back pressure within the vessel while controlling the discharge flow of effluent liquid from the vessel. The sludge disposal apparatus includes an elongated screw conveyor/compactor mounted at an angle and extending upwardly from the vessel bottom. The compactor housing is tapered to compact the sludge as the screw conveyor carries the sludge to a liquid extraction section. The liquid extraction section has a screen tapered to further compact the slurry while extracting liquid being forced out of the slurry.

Abstract: Apparatus and a method accomplished by the apparatus is disclosed for cleaning shards, such as clay pigeon fragments, of debris and contaminant materials for recycling. The apparatus includes a reservoir containing a washing fluid and a moving conveyor partially submerged in the fluid. A screen has an outlet positioned above the submerged portion of the conveyor so that the shards may pass along the screen to the conveyor while some debris and contaminant material falls through the screen and into the reservoir away from the conveyor. The shards are washed in the fluid and are conveyed by the conveyor out of the fluid and past a bank of spray nozzles which spray the shards in a direction against the motion of the conveyor. Preferably, the screen from the bottom of a hopper and the shards are introduced by the hopper onto the conveyor under the influence of a fluid spray. A pump system circulates fluid through the various sprayers. A weir is included to trap buoyant debris.

Abstract: A system of continuously and efficiently separating liquid from sludge is disclosed which includes two parts, the mixer conditioner and the rotary drain. The two parts are virtually always used together. The mixer conditioner may include an adjacent vertical receiver which may serve to extend residence time. The receiver, if used, is connected at the bottom to the tangential inlet line to the mixer conditioner. This inlet line provides the means for circulation therethrough the watery sludge to which has been added a flocculant in a gentle manner so as to cause mixing while not causing shearing. A slow moving horizontal impeller operates to maintain the spiraling motion initiated at the tangential inlet. The outlet, also tangential, delivers to the rotary drain. The rotary drain is a compartmentalized cage that is decreasingly baffled from compartment to compartment.

Abstract: Drill cuttings, and similar slurries or mixtures oily solid particles, are treated by a dryer apparatus which vaporizes the liquid and discharges relatively large solid particles for disposal. Vapor and entrained solid fines are conveyed from the dryer to a condenser and then to a rotary drum vacuum filter having a precoated filter media disposed thereon. The solid fines are filtered by the filter media comprising diatomaceous earth or perlite and the clarified condensed liquid is conveyed to separator means for separating oil, water and any other liquids present. • Patent number: 4713181
Abstract: A method and apparatus in which a water sludge suspension is initially separated from the water by skimming and then is conveyed to a dewatering station at which the sludge is oscillated or vibrated to separate mechanically the water from the solid sludge material. Preferably, at the dewatering station, the sludge is dropped a predetermined distance onto a sieve, the impact of the falling sludge producing a squeezing action on the sludge to initially exude the occluded water. The sieve, which is inclined, is then oscillated or vibrated to work the sludge to further exude water therefrom and to urge the sludge down the inclined surface of the sieve. After traveling to the bottom of the sieve, the sludge, now substantially dewatered, is received by a container for disposal.
