Abstract: A debris catcher uses induced circulation from a venturi to urge debris laden flow into the lower end of a housing. An inlet tube maintains velocity so as to keep the debris moving with the fluid stream as it goes up the inlet tube. A screen fits over the open end of the inlet tube and runs down around the inlet tube toward the entrance of the debris laden fluid into the lower end of the housing. There is a clearance around the cylindrical portion of the screen so some flow can exit that way. There is also an open exit through the top of the screen that can be reached after the fluid stream makes two hairpin turns. Many modules can be stacked. Each module has a large screen area for flow to exit and progressive modules can have smaller screen openings in an uphole flow direction.

A fiber filter is formed in a manner that ends of a plurality of fibrous materials made of carbon fibers bundled into a fiber bundle are connected to each other at a fixation part. The fiber filter is used as a filter of an anaerobic filter-bed tank of a sewage purifier. A part, which is not fixed at the fixation part, of the fibrous materials of the fiber filter spreads and develops in a tuft shape in sewage. Thus, the surface area of the fiber filter can be increased. Capacity necessary for treatment of the sewage W can be reduced and effectively used. The filter cartridge is comprised of a stacked arrangement of a plurality of disc-dam units wherein each disc-dam unit is provided with a serpentine configured first dam, the first dam extending upwardly from an upper surface of the disc-dam unit, the first dam having terminating ends spaced at outer terminating edges of the disc dam unit to define a cord segment therebetween. The terminating ends are connected by a second dam having a height less than the first dam.

Abstract: An effluent filter for septic tanks and the like has substantially horizontal filtering levels provided in a stepped arrangement on both an inlet side and an outlet side of the effluent filter. The effluent filter provides an array of both substantially horizontal and vertical filtering slits through which effluent must pass to reach the outlet side and exit the septic system. Particles in the effluent must navigate tortuous paths created by the array of filtering slits and are trapped by these filtering slits, rather than being allowed to exit the septic system with the filtered effluent. The effluent filter is flexible and is further provided with integral external flexible wiper blades that serve to improve a friction fit between the effluent filter and an associated T baffle, sanitary T baffle, or other pipe component, as well as prevent particles in the effluent from circumventing the effluent filter.

Abstract: A pretreatment system and a pretreatment method for recycling exhaust water, for purifying exhaust water to a water quality acceptable to ordinary water-purification equipment, has advantages of small space occupation, low energy consumption, and lower cost. By providing a mixing piping with coarse interior, a series of closed micro continuous stirred tank reactors can be established inside the pipe to form plenty of turbulent regions for thoroughly mixing the chemical and the exhaust water. Flocculent gels that carry pollutants and particles of the exhaust water then can be removed by a filtering unit, for purifying the exhaust water. Also, by providing a modified silt density index, the pollution of a sample water can be clearly scaled and monitored.

  • Patent number: 6210567
Abstract: A filtration device for tank water for aquarium fish having several partitions dividing the casing into several filtration chambers. A removable filtration cartridge is inserted into each filtration chamber. The cartridge has top and bottom panels with perforations formed in the panels to allow water to flow through the cartridge. The partitions are arranged in an alternating pattern. One partition has an opening near the bottom of the casing, and the partition extends to the top of the casing. The next partition does not have an opening near the bottom of the casing and the partition does not reach the top of the casing. This arrangement allows water to flow through the filtration device in a zigzag pattern. The removable cartridges allow individual filter mediums to be replaced without removing all the beneficial bacteria from the system.

  • Patent number: 5861093
Abstract: An apparatus for filtering and cooling liquid, with four filtration chambers are connected by a series of passageways. The apparatus is mounted on a cart so that it may be rolled into position under a machine quickly and easily. Once the apparatus is in position, the machine is drained of its debris-laden oil which flows directly into the first chamber and through the first wire mesh filter. The liquid is then forced either by gravity or by pressure through the remaining chambers and their respective filters which have progressively smaller pore sizes. The tortuous movement of the liquid around the weirs helps to cool the liquid while the filters remove foreign particles from the liquid. Once the liquid reaches the fourth chamber, a pump is used to pump the cleansed liquid back into the machine so that it may be reused. The inlet to the pump may be fitted with an optional fifth filter element.

Abstract: A filter for treating liquids comprises an elongate housing having a liquid inlet port, an outlet port for concentrated liquid and a permeate discharge port. Extending through the housing is a parallel array of filter tubes, each having a permeable wall so that permeate passes into a common chamber defined by the housing. Manifold members, located at each end of the housing, are provided with channel means which communicate with the ends of the tubes. In use, the channel means direct the liquid along at least three passes through the tubes, the volume of liquid being reduced between the first and final passes so as to maintain the desired flow velocity. Each pass comprises a group of tubes, and the liquid may pass through seven or eleven groups of tubes.

  • Patent number: 5478465
Abstract: A liquid filter apparatus particularly useful in removing particulates from parts washing solvent. A filter assembly includes an exterior, fluid-impermeable container, preferably in the form of a flexible sidewall bag, and an interior filter element with permeable sidewalls and inlet and outlet ends, preferably in the form of a sleeve. In use, liquid entering the sleeve may pass unfiltered entirely through the sleeve and exit through a sidewall of the exterior container, or all or any part of such liquid may pass through the filter sleeve and into a portion of the apparatus outside the sleeve but inside the exterior container. From this portion, the liquid emerges in a filtered condition. Consequently, the filter continually operates in both filtration and bypass modes.
