  • Patent number: 8043504
Abstract: A filter cartridge that is designed to accommodate differences in lengths between an outer filter media and an inner filter media by providing a flexible connection between the inner filter media and the outer filter media. In addition, the endplates of the inner filter and the outer filter together define a gasket groove that receives a gasket. Using the endplates of the inner and outer filter media to define the gasket groove eliminates a mold parting line that can lead to fluid leakage.

  • Patent number: 7998349
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device having two or more separate filtration layers that can be independently tested for integrity yet which allow for serial filtration through the two or more layers to obtain the desired characteristics such as retention. The device is made of two or more filtration areas, each containing one filter layer. Each area has one filtration layer and a first endcap bonded to a first end of the filter and a second endcap bonded to a second end of the filter. The areas are arranged concentrically around each other such that the first area is inward of the second area which is inward of a third area and the like. Each area is formed separately and integrity tested separately before final assembly. The first area is slid into the inside of the second area and then the two endcaps are either bonded to each, bonded to a third overall endcap or overmolded by a third endcap.

  • Patent number: 7935255
Abstract: A filter cartridge configured as a filter-in-filter design with an inner filter and an outer filter. The filter cartridge has features, for example an overhanging lip, to engage with a lid of a filter housing in which the cartridge is installed such that the lid is connected to the cartridge. As a result, the cartridge can be connected to the lid to facilitate installation and removal of the cartridge. Alternatively, the same features that allow connection with the lid permit a user to manually grasp the cartridge during installation and removal so that the cartridge can be used without a lid having attachment features. The filter cartridge is also designed to enable use of a longer inner filter within the outer filter. A longer inner filter increases the amount of filter media available for filtering the fluid.

A mechanism, for example crush ribs, connects an upper end plate of the outer filter and an upper end plate of the inner filter to prevent relative axial and radial movement therebetween when assembled. Relative axial or radial motion can create a rattling noise which is sometimes perceived as a low quality filter. The crush ribs are, for example, formed on an interior surface of the upper end plate of the outer filter, and the ribs engage an outer perimeter of the upper end plate of the inner filter. • Patent number: 7001517
Abstract: A filter element assembly has at least two cylindrically shaped and concentrically arranged filter media sleeves each connected at one end thereof to an inlet plate and each connected at the other end to a closed end terminal plate. Openings are provided in the inlet plate to permit entry of liquid to be filtered into the annular space between the filter sleeves. The closed end terminal plate prevents flow of unfiltered liquid from the annular space between the sleeves so as to force the liquid through the porous media of the sleeves to effect filtration.

  • Patent number: 6991665
Abstract: A filter wrap for a cylindrical filter has a sheet with an interior side facing the filter when the sheet is wrapped on the filter, and an exterior side. It also has an edge defining a main opening to the interior for receiving the filter. At least one strap is provided for the wrap with one end attached to the sheet. The strap has another accessible distal end. Pulling on the strap(s) everts the sheet as it is pulled off of the filter. This results in trapping debris residing on the exterior of the sheet within the sheet once it is everted during removal of the wrap from the filter. Installation and removal can be performed while the protected equipment remains in operation.

  • Patent number: 6833071
Abstract: A method and apparatus for filtering a slurry utilizing a displacement filtering principle. The filter apparatus desirably includes an inner filter and an outer filter. Both the inner and outer filters are preferably substantially annular in shape and positioned concentrically with respect to each other. A particulate collection volume is at least partially defined between the inner and outer filter. The method includes directing a flow of slurry into the particulate collection volume under sufficient pressure to force fluid within the particulate collection volume through one of the inner and outer filters and any particulate matter blocking a filtering surface of the inner and outer filters.

  • Patent number: 6787033
Abstract: Impurities contained in a fluid are removed by a filter having a housing containing a full flow filter, a bypass filter, and a conduit. The conduit includes a pressure reduction section. The full flow filter, bypass filter, and conduit are positioned such that the bypass filter is downstream of the full flow filter, and the pressure reduction section creates a pressure differential across the bypass filter that draws a predetermined portion of the fluid through the bypass filter. All of the fluid passes through the full flow filter. The predetermined portion of the fluid that passes through full flow filter is also filtered a second time by being drawn through the bypass filter.

Abstract: The present invention relates to small vehicles such as lawn and garden tractors and more specifically to an oil filter cartridge or assembly usable with the transmissions of such vehicles. The cartridge is comprised of a filtering element, a strainer element and a by-pass valve. The by-pass valve is housed within the strainer element and is adapted to direct oil flow through the strainer element, but not the filter element when the oil viscosity is high and only through the filter element when the oil viscosity is low. In this way, the parasitic horsepower loss caused by routing oil through the strainer element at all times is eliminated. The cartridge is also housed within the transmission case to reduce mounting bracketry outside the transmission case and minimize the likelihood of insufficient oil supply available for the filter, pump and hydraulic system functions.

Abstract: The invention relates to a filter device with a filter housing (10) and a first filter element (12), arranged therein through which a medium may flow in a given direction and with a bypass device (22). Along with the first filter element (12), a further second filter element (32) is provided, said filter elements (32) are arranged in series, one behind the other, in the direction of flow and, on the bypass device (22) being activated, the further filter element (32), immediately following in the direction of flow, carries out a filtration of the medium. The further filter element thus takes over the main filtration of the medium on actuation and operation of the bypass device as the first filter element is essentially no longer available for a filtration process due to the bypass device.

  • Patent number: 6676834
Abstract: A self-cleaning water filter, coupled to a water flow having particulates therein, that includes a pair of canisters, each having a cylindrical wedge wire water filter screen. An elongated brush running the length of the screen is disposed between two confining walls also running the length of the screen to form a chamber. A elongated partition, including two sets of apertures, is used, along with the elongated brush, to divide the chamber into two particulate dislodge chambers and a drain subchamber. A drain is in fluid communication with the drain subchamber. During cleaning, the drain is opened and the screen is rotated against the brush for liberating the particulate contaminants and a limited amount of the water flow into the two dislodge subchambers. The particulate contaminants and the limited amount of water then pass through the apertures at a high velocity and into the drain a subchamber which exits through the drain.
