With Variable Flow Controller Patents (Class 210/371)
  • Patent number: 7320750
Abstract: A centrifuge with controlled discharge of dense materials disclosed. A centrifuge includes a fluid separation wall placed within a sleeve to form a containment zone therebetween. The fluid separation wall aligns and rotates parallel to an axis of rotation. A receptacle forming a part of the fluid separation wall includes a void area. An opening extending through the fluid separation wall from the void area to the outer surface of the receptacle transports the more dense material to the containment zone. A valve ring forming a part of the fluid separation wall includes a valve orifice. The valve ring aligned perpendicular to the axis of rotation and slides along the fluid separation wall to move between open and closed positions. The valve orifice aligns with the opening such that the more dense material exits the fluid separation wall and moves into the containment zone.

  • Patent number: 5944649
Abstract: Method and device (21) for the supply of control liquid to a rotor of a centrifugal separator, which device (21) includes a cylinder (25), in which a movable wall element (26) is arranged, which axially delimits a storing chamber (29) in the cylinder (25). In the storing chamber (29) a predetermined volume of control liquid is stored. Control liquid is pressed out of the storing chamber (29) into the rotor during axial displacement of the wall element (26). Furthermore, the invention includes a centrifugal separator, which is provided with such a device (21). A portion of the control liquid in the storing chamber (29) is pressed upon displacement of the wall element (26) a first distance out through a first outlet passage (33) in the device with a high flow. The first outlet passage (33) is then closed when the wall element (26) has been displaced this distance.

  • Patent number: 5616245
Abstract: A separator includes a housing, a basket rotatably mounted in the housing and a movable weir member. The basket has an upstream end portion, a downstream end portion and an intermediate tubular portion that includes or forms a screen deck. The weir member is movable between a first position where a portion of the weir member extends radially inward relative to the inner surface of the downstream open end portion and a second position spaced from the first position. In this manner, the weir member forms a movable dam adjacent the downstream end portion of the basket. In operation, feed material is fed into the basket as the basket is rotated. The heavy fractions of the material pass transversely through the basket (i.e., the tubular portion that forms a screen deck) and report to a first outlet from which the heavy fractions are collected.

  • Patent number: 4806252
Abstract: An apparatus and method of separating a component from a collected quantity of fluid. The apparatus includes a dual member centrifuge and an associated fluid flow transfer set. The transfer set has a collection container in which a quantity of fluid can be initially accumulated. The collection container is formed as a disk-shaped plastic member with an elongated generally radially extending barrier member formed therein. A component collection container is in fluid flow communication with the disk-shaped container. The method provides for centrifugation of the collection container in the dual member centrifuge thereby separating out the selected fluid component. The component can then be pumped out of the collection container into the component accumulation container. The residual fluid can be sealed in the collection container for later use. The component collection container can be separated and sealed also for later use.

  • Patent number: 4689157
Abstract: The method is carried out with a self-emptying separator. Used mineral oil is supplied to its centrifuge drum through a central intake. Purified oil is extracted through a run-off. The separator also has another run-off for liquid extracted from the periphery of the drum. The second run-off is supplied from a sampler. A sensor is positioned in the second run-off. The sensor determines the consistency of the liquid. Downstream of the sensor is a water run-off valve. A line branches off between the sensor and the water run-off valve. The line is provided with a circulation-system valve and empties into the intake. When the circulation-system valve is open and the sensor determines from the consistency of the liquid flowing through the second run-off that the liquid is an emulsion of oil and water, it supplies the result to controls. The controls then close the circulation-system valve for a prescribed amount of time.

  • Patent number: 4634536
Abstract: A method of separating solid particles from the liquid constituent of a slurry, containing solids having a "wide" particle size distribution, that is, a size distribution wherein the equivalent diameter of particles in the slurry ranges between at least 15 microns and 150 microns. The method uses a screen bowl centrifuge and comprises: (a) establishing a bed of solids on the screen section of the centrifuge whose maximum radial thickness is greater than 15 times the mean particle equivalent diameter of said solids in the slurry; (b) operating the scroll of the centrifuge at a speed within the range of 0.5 to 10% of the bowl speed; and (c) returning at least a portion of the solids contaminated centrate from the centrifuge to the interior of the screen section of the bowl so as to deposit the centrate on the solids passing over the screen section at or adjacent a region of maximum solids thickness.

  • Patent number: 4522718
Abstract: An axially displaceable rotary part is latched securely in a certain axial position relative to a concentric rotary part by a mechanism which includes latch means that are rotated with the concentric part and are displaceable radially relative to it by movements of a ring member so as to engage elements of the latch means with and disengage them from a latchable member of the axially displaceable part. At operating speeds of the system the latch means are urged to latching position by centrifugal force. Although applicable to various rotary mechanical systems, the mechanism is particularly useful as a component of a heavy duty cyclical centrifugal machine for latching the bottom valve member of the centrifugal basket in closed position during the loading and centrifuging stages of each centrifugal operating cycle.

  • Patent number: 4510052
Abstract: In an operating system for a centrifuge rotor having valve means being operable by means of so called operating liquid for opening and closing peripheral outlets in the rotor, an injector device for supplying operating liquid to the rotor is used which comprises a chamber divided by a movable wall into an air side and a liquid side. The liquid side of the injector device is maintained in hydraulic contact with an injection inlet to the centrifuge rotor before an opening procedure is to be started, which is effected by opening a time controlled air valve on the air side of the injector device. The air valve is further connected to a compressed air source through a buffer vessel so that a controlled air pressure is used for the injection of operating liquid to the rotor.

  • Patent number: 4325825
Abstract: A separator for separating liquids immiscible with each other and containing solids heavier than the heavier liquid, includes a rotating conic drum into which the liquids are injected. The drum has a circumferential wall formed of two oppositely-directed conic surfaces joined at the bases at an inclination angle to form an equator; and openings are provided at the equator for the heavier liquid and the solids to pass. Preferably, the drum has a star-like cross section with the interior wall extending inward at an angle from either side of each opening. The separator can include a weir or paring disc disposed radially in the static pressure chamber at a nominal level of the heavier liquid to maintain proper pressure of the heavier fluid to prevent the lighter liquid from discharging into the static pressure chamber. Alternatively, a sensor and valve arrangement can be provided to achieve this benefit.
