  • Patent number: 4692248
Abstract: Improved devices for filtration of fluid suspensions that form flow resistant filter cakes, e.g., waste-water treatment sludges, have a cylindrical filter unit mounted for rotation about an approximately horizontal axis. Influent is charged in one end, filter cake forms on an inner rigid filter media surface and discharges at the other end. Pressurized air is applied along a top, longitudinal area and vacuum assist is applied along a bottom longitudinal area of the rotating filter unit. In preferred embodiments, the cylindrical unit is formed of wire spirally wound into a cylinder with spaces therebetween, there are a plurality of spaced apart bars fixed normal to the helical wire on the inner surface and rigid filter media formed of particulate material bonded in a resin matrix fills the cavities between the bars and covers the wire spirals.

  • Patent number: 4597865
Abstract: A cylindrically-shaped horizontal rotating unit which separates liquids from liquid-bearing materials, such as sludge or sewage, is the subject of this invention. After the liquid-bearing material is fed from a pipe onto a tray or head box located at the bottom of the feed end near the circumference of the unit, the material flows from onto the interior of the cylinder which contains bar screens around its circumference. The cylinder is rotated at variable speeds while the material is fed into it. When the cylinder is rotated liquids are drained from the material through bar screens contained around the circumference of the cylinder and into a drain pan below the cylinder thereby leaving the remaining material more solid. Additional features of this invention include interrupted pitched flights or blades protruding from the inside of the cylinder, which not only push the materials toward the discharge end of the cylinder but also roll the material end over end to remove even more liquid from the material.

  • Patent number: 4518498
Abstract: A filtration apparatus comprised of a rotary drum having a plurality of internal vanes for conveying slag material is presented. The slag is conveyed upwardly by the vanes, after which is falls freely onto a conveyer belt passing longitudinally through the drum. Deflectors guide the slag during its fall onto the belt. The deflectors are divergent and inclined relative to the direction of movement of the conveyer belt. The rotatable drum is axially subdivided into a plurality of sections, the vanes of each section being angularly offset in relation to the vanes of adjacent sections. The filtering apparatus herein effects uniform charging of slag material onto the conveyer belt.

  • Patent number: 4198299
Abstract: Drop-back of solids into the drum pool of a rotary microscreen is reduced by applying a limited gas pressure differential across an unsubmerged portion of the screen cloth. The pressure is not for the purpose of increasing the driving force, .DELTA.H, of the liquid passing through the cloth. For purposes of this disclosure, .DELTA.H is the pressure differential existing across the screen below the surface of both the drum pool and tank pool. In fact, assuming other factors remain equal, application of a gas pressure differential to an unsubmerged portion of the screen cloth, with consequent reduction in drum pool suspended solids concentration, will normally reduce .DELTA.H even though the gas pressure also acts on the surface of the drum pool. More significantly, the invention enables operation of a microscreen unit at increased flow capacity at a given .DELTA.H. Whatever pressure is applied, there will be some reduction of torque, bearing load and wear at any given .DELTA.H.
