  • Patent number: 7497946
Abstract: A subsurface drip wastewater disposal system and method are disclosed that eliminate the need for headworks, reduce the risk of damage to the system, and permit optimal pump sizing by simultaneously dosing, flushing the pipe network and flushing the filter. A tank and pump package provide effluent under pressure to the field piping network comprising a supply manifold, a return manifold, and a plurality of emitter lines. A discharge filter that is capable of simultaneous filtering and flushing is provided on the discharge line, and a first flow restrictor is provided on the filter flush return line. Effluent is discharged at a rate and pressure that permits simultaneous pipe flushing and dosing, with the return manifold returning to the tank through a field return line having a second flow restrictor. The size of the first and second flow restrictors is selected to provide the desired flow splits.

Abstract: A filtering apparatus having two distinct filter media for filtering circulating fluid in a circulation system. A portion of the fluid entering the filter passes through a first filter media, while a reduced portion of the fluid entering the filter passes through a second filter media. The second filter media accumulates contaminants and suspended particles from the circulating fluid. The filter media is capable of including at least one additive for treating the circulating fluid. Due to the reduced volumetric fluid flow through the second filter media, the additive can be slowly administered to the circulating fluid over a long period of time. The two filter media may be housed in a dual-canister, where the second filter media may be removed and replaced without removing the first filter media.

One exemplary embodiment provides a combination filter valve apparatus suitable for filtering objectionable particulate matter from a fluid and for selectively occluding a fluid flow opening. In this exemplary embodiment, the apparatus generally includes an outer member, a sealing member, and filtration media disposed generally between the outer member and the sealing member. The filtration media may be configured to generally support the sealing member for resilient movement relative to a fluid flow opening between open and closed positions. In the open position, the sealing member may be spaced apart from the fluid flow opening. In the closed position, the sealing member may be in sealing engagement with and substantially blocking the fluid flow opening, thereby inhibiting the ingress of fluid into or egress of fluid out of the fluid flow opening.

The ends of the hollow-fiber membranes are embedded in a fluid-tight manner in first and second sealing compounds joined to the housing inner wall in a fluid-tight manner. The exterior space formed around the hollow-fiber membranes and delimited by the first and second sealing compounds and the housing inner wall is divided along the longitudinal extent of the housing into a dialyzate space and a substituate space by a dividing wall that is made from a substantially dimensionally stable material. The dividing wall encloses each hollow-fiber membrane and is arranged substantially transversely to the hollow-fiber membranes. The dialyzate space and substituate space each have at least one opening for introducing or draining a fluid.

  • Patent number: 6884360
Abstract: The present invention employs cross-flow to extend operation time of filtration devices and to increase filtration efficiency. The filtration device with cross-flow function consists of a filter, a case for containing the filter and a diffuser. There are an inlet and an outlet set on the case. The diffuser is set inside the filter along longitudinal direction. The diffuser consists of a reducing section, a throat section and a flared section for producing cross-flow so as to prevent the impurities and particles in the fluid to form cake on the inner surface of filter, so the operation time is therefore greatly increased. A drain outlet is set for adjusting the impurities and particles concentrations of the fluid inside the filter for further extending the effective operation time.

Abstract: A dual-stage system and methods for using the same include first and second filtration cartridges is provided and is particularly suited for hemodiafiltration and/or hemodialysis. As fluid enters the first diafiltration cartridge, the hydrogenion concentration (pH) is reduced by exposing it to an acidic solution such as citric acid across a filter membrane. This stage allows for improved removal of certain toxins in the fluid, such as protein-bound substances that disassociate more readily from proteins at lower pH. As the filtered fluid enters the second filtration cartridge, the pH of the fluid is restored to normal levels prior to infusion to a patient.
