Patent number: 8376147Abstract: The invention relates to a filter cartridge (1) which comprises a firmly fixed lid (10) and has a long service life. Said lid (10) is embodied in such a way that the bottom (11) of the lid extends towards the peripheral wall (3) of the cartridge container to join the lateral wall (16) of the lid, by means of an inwardly curved edge section (14), the curved edge section (14) and the lateral wall (16) in the form of a strip joining in the forming region to form an inwardly tapered common wall section (15). In this way, the region fixing the lateral wall (16) to the peripheral wall (3) is subjected only to a tensile load, minimizing the risk of shear fracture, and the inner pressure in the region of the common wall section (15) presses the wall section against the peripheral wall (3), thus exerting an additional sealing force.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 2003Date of Patent: February 19, 2013Assignee: BRITA GmbHInventors: Ernst Reder, Ingo Mohr, Klaus-Peter Weber, Jorg Lindloff

Patent number: 8157107Abstract: A liquid filter has a filter housing with a first thread and a drain passage. A filter element including a filter medium is arranged in the filter housing. A filter lid is provided with a second thread configured to engage the first thread for connecting the filter lid to the filter housing. The filter lid further has a filter by pass valve for bypassing the filter element when a pressure loss that is too high occurs when liquid passes through the filter medium of the filter element. First bayonet connectors are provided on the filter lid and second bayonet connectors are provided on the filter element for connecting the filter element to the filter lid by engaging the first bayonet connectors. A double-concentric seal is arranged on the filter element for closing off the drain passage.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2008Date of Patent: April 17, 2012Assignee: Mann+Hummel GmbHInventor: Martin Weindorf

Patent number: 8157997Abstract: A canister filter system includes a base, a canister attachable to the base, and positioned inside the canister a filter element having filter media. A drain engages and forms a seal with the filter element in a closed position. In an open position, the drain allows fluid to be removed from the canister. Because the drain is engaged to and forms a seal with the filter element in the closed position, the drain cannot be closed unless a filter element is present inside the canister. This prevents accidental or intentional use of the filter system without a filter element in place.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2007Date of Patent: April 17, 2012Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: Mark T. Allott, David Ofori-Amoah

Patent number: 8152876Abstract: The invention relates to a filter element, consisting of a filter medium (10) that is pleated in a zigzag manner and has a concentric form, and an end disk (11) disposed on a front, and a second end disk (12) disposed on the opposite front, wherein the end disk (12) has a concentric opening (13) and extends substantially annularly across the pleats of the filter medium. The end disk (12) has a ring collar (14) extending radially toward the outside. The ring collar (14) has a seal (15) that surrounds the ring collar at least partially, wherein the seal has an axially extending region, which carries radially peripheral sealing lips (17), and said radially peripherals sealing lips are supported in a groove (18) or in a housing wall (19) of a housing receiving the filter element.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2008Date of Patent: April 10, 2012Assignee: Mann + Hummel GmbHInventors: Eric Gillenberg, Klaus-Dieter Ruhland, Oliver Steins

Publication number: 20120080372Abstract: A canister filter system includes a base, a canister attachable to the base, and a fluid separator filter having filter media positioned inside the canister. A drain engages and forms a seal with the filter in a closed position. In an open position, the drain allows fluid to be removed from the canister. The structure of the filter is such that the filter may more efficiently separate fluids.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 12, 2011Publication date: April 5, 2012Applicant: CATERPILLAR INC.Inventors: Jeffrey R.
