The ends of a filter element are sealed using potting compound and plastic endcaps. The upper endcap, which is closed, has a pressure relief aperture associated therewith to prevent bowing. Rubber gaskets are associated with the respective endcaps, and are reliably secured to the endcaps by being snap fit into grooves molded into the plastic of the endcaps. The lower endcap utilizes a simple radial seal gasket which is both highly effective and also positioned to avoid structural crushing forces on the cartridge. • Patent number: 6991112
Abstract: An improved disposable filter cartridge for use in a filter housing includes a pleated filter member and first and second plastic end caps mounted to the ends of the filter member. The first end cap has an inner edge defining a central opening. In one embodiment, an elastomeric annular gasket is removably mounted to the inner edge of the first end cap. In another embodiment, a predetermined surface of elastomeric annular gasket is adhered to a confronting surface of the first end cap. At least one annular ridge projects into the first end cap opening. The at least one ridge abuts the outer surface of an inlet tube to form a fluidic seal with the inlet tube when the disposable filter cartridge is mounted within a cooperative filter housing. The second end cap may include an elastomeric annular gasket having an angled sealing surface configured to form a seal against the confronting end of an inlet tube.

Abstract: A filter element comprises a pleated metal fiber fleece being pleated according to pleating lines providing an edge with pleat openings to be closed in order to make gas flowing through the metal fiber fleece. The filter element further comprises at least two flanks, each of these flanks comprising a stiff material layer. The stiff material layer and the metal fiber fleece are connected using a layer of ceramic adhesive, which prevents direct contact of the metal fiber fleece over the length of the edge of the metal fiber fleece with the flank. Meanwhile the flanks, being essentially perpendicular to the pleating lines, closing the pleat openings in order to prevent bypasses.

  • Patent number: 6962660
Abstract: A filter system for spas and swimming pools is disclosed having a primary filter containing a porous membrane made of multiple plies. A fluid purifying medium in the form of irregularly shaped copper and zinc alloy particles is captured between the plies and placed in contact with the spa water to kill bacteria and remove heavy metals, precipitates and chlorine as the water cycles through the filter. A micro filter for filtering particles surrounds the primary filter, the micro filter and primary filter are mounted in a chamber in fluid communication with the spa or pool. Another particulate filter is positioned upstream of the micro filter and primary filter. A secondary micro filter and primary filter provide filter capacity augmentation through a parallel flow path during periods of increased demand.
