Abstract: The oil-water separator is installed in a substantially horizontal crude oil pipeline for separating water from the oil and water mix. The separator includes a vortex and settling chamber extending downward from the pipeline. The segment of the pipeline having the separator defines a generally T-shaped configuration. Oil and water phases flowing through the pipeline drop into the chamber as it flows through the pipeline and over the chamber. The denser water tends to settle into the bottom of the chamber, while the lighter oil is entrained back into the flow through the pipeline. A sensor detects water collected in the bottom of the chamber and provides a signal to open a drain valve when sufficient water has been collected. While only a single separator serves to collect a substantial fraction of water, a series of separators may be installed along the pipe to remove more water from the oil.

Abstract: A system delivers water with at least a threshold concentration of ozone to an exit point. Ozone is injected into water flowing into a tank. The ozone concentration in the tank is monitored by a first sensor. Once the water in the tank has at least the threshold concentration of ozone, the water may be pumped to an exit point. A second sensor in proximity to the exit point monitors the ozone concentration of the treated water in proximity to the exit point. If the water in proximity to the exit point has at least the threshold concentration of ozone, the system allows a portion of the treated water to exit the system to a point of use. The second sensor in proximity to the exit point assures the treated water that is actually delivered to the exit point has at least the threshold value of ozone concentration.

Abstract: A water purification system disinfects incoming water by filtering the water before creating ozone from the water and directly into the water. After the water is disinfected by exposure to ozone, excess ozone is removed prior to providing the disinfected water to an end user. Some embodiments divide the incoming water into a divided water flow, and provide only one of the flows to the ozonating electrode. Some embodiments include a feedback network for controlling the system to produce purified water, and/or to maintain the purity of previously-purified water.

Abstract: A personal water conservation system includes gray water discharge lines, a main sewage line, an impurity measuring unit, a buffer tank, a directional control valve, a water treatment unit, a treated water tank, an automatic shutoff valve, and at least one toilet flush tank. The buffer tank and the water treatment unit purify the gray water in two different stages. The purified gray water is then stored in the treated water tank. If the gray water can't be purified within the personal water conservation system, the impurity measuring unit and the directional control valve redirect the gray water into the main sewage line. The purified water from the treated water tank can be used with the at least one toilet flush tank in order to conserve fresh water.

Abstract: A method and system for processing fluoride-containing wastewater includes treating the wastewater with brine (waste) created by the regeneration process implemented by in ion exchanging water softener. The brine, which is typically disposed of, contains both calcium and magnesium salts, in varying concentrations and ratios. The regeneration process brine is added to the fluoride-containing wastewater within a reaction tank, and the fluoride ion concentration is monitored. When the fluoride ion concentration falls below a predetermined level (e.g., 15 ppm), the flow of regeneration process brine is stopped. A pH controller monitors the pH within the reaction tank, and adds a basic agent to ensure that the pH remains above a predetermined level (e.g., pH>9). The pH control results in a clear effluent, and a sludge having a high settling rate and a high dewater ability.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for monitoring and controlling a real-time oxidation-reduction potential in a hot water system to inhibit corrosion in the hot water system. The method includes defining one or more operational protective zones in the hot water system. One or more of the operational protective zones includes an oxidation-reduction potential probe that is operable to measure a real-time oxidation-reduction potential in the hot water system at operating temperature and pressure. The probe transmits the measured real-time potential to the controller, which assesses and interprets the transmitted potential to determine whether it conforms to an oxidation-reduction potential setting. If the measured potential does not conform the oxidation-reduction potential setting, the controller is operable to feed or remove one or more active chemical species into or from the hot water system and further operable to change at least one system parameter.

In another aspect the invention provides the capacity to employ a step where a specific target element strategy can be set up synchronizing sorbent substance choices and multiple recycle options to remove target substances from wastestream as a part of its Sorption or Powder Sorbent Isotopic Reduction step (II). Other steps cooperate with Sorption step (II) including Oxidation (I), Solid-Liquid separation (III), and Selective Ion Exchange (IV) to deliver the wastestream to final processing.
