  • Patent number: 6520353
Abstract: A shelf system having a shelf and a bracket. The bracket and shelf interlock to form a snap together unit. The shelf has a channel formed along each of its lateral edges, and each channel extends from the front to the rear of the shelf. The channel is downwardly facing. A tab is lanced out of the side wall of the shelf, and positioned within the channel to form an interference member. A whole is punched in the bracket to cooperate with the tab and the webbed material between the hole and the upper edge of the bracket interferes with the tab, thereby preventing removal of the bracket from the channel after the bracket is assembled to the shelf. The side wall of the shelf is flexible to allow insertion of the bracket beyond the tab. Additionally, secondary engagement means is provided between the lower edge of each rib on the shelf and a support finger on the bracket after the brackets are inserted into the channels of the shelf, the brackets are firmly attached to the shelf.

  • Patent number: 6401944
Abstract: A corrugated deck for use as decking or shelving in storage racks is provided. The deck has a plurality of apertures punched or formed into the horizontal surface areas according to a predetermined pattern. Each aperture is punched or formed such that a downwardly sloping, vertical flange is created from the surrounding material. The flange directs the flow of liquid into the aperture from the adjacent horizontal surface areas and reinforces the structural integrity of the deck. A storage rack made with decks of this invention meets fire code requirements regarding the percentage of open area in the shelving and at the same time handles high load-bearing applications.

  • Publication number: 20010037987
Abstract: A system for construction whereby a virtually unlimited number of structural configurations relating to vastly different applications can be assembled using relatively few different structural members. Structural members are sized and slotted according to a standardized system. Because structural members are sized and slotted according to the standardized system, the vast majority of structural members are interchangeable and inter-connectable with other structural members to allow for scaling and expansion of structural assemblies while maintaining consistent spacing. This wide range of interchangeability and consistently spaced inter-connectibility overcomes conventional restraints which have, historically, limited design flexibility and the resulting utility of conventionally constructed items.

  • Patent number: 4795042
Abstract: A mail sorting apparatus having a pair of opposing side panels, a top panel, a pair of opposing back panels, and a plurality of shelving members extending between the opposing side panels. The shelving members are supported by brackets having spaced apart shelf supporting tabs, the brackets being located along the opposing side panels and back panels. The shelving members are divided into compartments by a plurality of dividers, with the dividers being received within slots extending through the shelving members. The size of the compartments is adjustable by modifying the spacing of the shelving members and placement of the dividers.

  • Patent number: 4756430
Abstract: A gravity feed shelf includes a plurality of chutes mounted on a rectangular frame having front and rear cross supports interconnected at their ends with a pair of side supports, the corner junctions between adjacent ends of the rear cross support and the side supports being formed by a lost motion connection in which front and back tabs on a support panel integral with each side support slide in slots formed in downwardly projecting elements of the rear cross support to accommodate sidewise motion of the side supports relative to the rear cross support so that variations in the horizontal spacing between vertical support posts on which the shelf is mounted due to manufacturing or installation procedures may be accommodated since the interconnection between these support posts and the shelf is via the rear ends of the side supports.

  • Patent number: 4742925
Abstract: There is disclosed a storage shelf which is specifically designed for an orderly storage of pails with tapered sidewalls. The shelf is used on a rack with end frames which support longitudinal rails at each shelf level. The shelves of the invention are supported between the longitudinal rails, with their ends resting on ledges which are on the inside surface of each rail. Each shelf is formed of heavy gauge sheet metal having coextensive, sidewalls with inclined inside walls. The height and inclination of the inside walls corresponds to the difference between the top and bottom diameters of the pails. This results in a shelf having inclined sidewalls which center the pails on the shelves, yet which provides minimal clearance between the tops of the pails, from row to row, thereby achieving automatic alignment of the pails without increasing the overall size or bulk of the storage unit. Each shelf is braced by its sidewalls and by a central longitudinal rib on its undersurface.

  • Patent number: 4733841
Abstract: A hanger bracket for attaching a furniture component to an upright wall. The component has end panels each provided with a substantially identical bracket adapted for engagement with slots formed in an upright. The bracket is formed in one piece of a thin sheetlike metal plate which is oriented vertically closely adjacent the respective end panel. The bracket has a forward end fixed to the end panel, and a cantilevered spring part which projects rearwardly adjacent the end panel in sidewardly spaced relationship so that it can be sidewardly resiliently deflected. This spring part, at the rearward edge thereof, has L-shaped hooks projecting rearwardly for engagement with the respective slotted upright. The spring part also has a locking finger integrally associated therewith adjacent the free edge thereof, which locking finger has a rearwardly protruding hose which registers with and projects into one of the slots only when the hooks are seated on the upright.

  • Patent number: 4709642
Abstract: Simplified metallic structures, in particular shelving, consisting of shelves and uprights, made of relatively thin sheet metal and complete with projections and of fixing members consisting of plastic angular components arranged in the space defined between the uprights and the shelves and with cavities where the projections of the shelves and the uprights are inserted. The uprights may have the same shape and dimensions of the shelves, or may have smaller dimensions and have a transverse section corresponding to that of the cavity. A hole is made in the angular components where the fixing and anchoring tie-rods are inserted.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for constructing a light weight yet durable shelf or panel unit. The preferred material of the invention is corrugated fiberboard. It will be appreciated, however, that the inventive concepts may will be applied to other materials such as plastic compounds and derivatives. In use of the design, light weight materials are folded together to yield a durable shelving structure with fastening means being formed on side edges thereof. The basic panel is designed as a one-piece unit with two rectangular pieces inserted therein in use of the invention.

  • Patent number: 4606170
Abstract: A decorative shelf edging strip has a generally L-shaped cross section. The strip cooperates with a metal shelf having two successive bends forming a front face and underturned lip. The front face of one of the legs of the L is treated with a decorative coating which may simulate wood grain for decorating the front face of the shelf. The second leg of the L-shaped strip terminates in a hook which engages the edge of the underturned lip of the shelf. The first and second legs of the strip form an angle slightly less than 90.degree. and the second leg further includes a small dogleg bend. A rib extends along the length of the strip from the upper portion of the first leg. Upon installation, the hook is first engaged with the rear edge of the underturned lip of the metal shelf.
