Having Counterweight Or Counterbalancing Means Patents (Class 212/195)
  • Patent number: 4286720
Abstract: Mobile cranes have a jib mounted on a platform or deck of a road vehicle so that the crane can be transported from one working site to another. Such a crane may have a counterweight on the rear of the crane jib superstructure and mounted so that it can be moved inwardly and outwardly relative the superstructure to balance the load on the jib. When the crane is to be driven along the rod, however, the jib is folded over the platform of the vehicle and in addition the counterweight is desirably removed from the jib superstructure and carried in a position on the vehicle platform where its weight best suits the vehicle suspension. In order to remove the counterweight, the superstructure is slewed to bring the counterweight to a position adjacent an upwardly inclined surface carried by the platform of the vehicle, the bottom surface of the counterweight being inclined at a corresponding angle to the horizontal equal to that of the inclined surface.

  • Patent number: 4268204
Abstract: A continuous type of bucket unloader especially useful in transferring bulk cargo from a floating ship to shore has a main loading boom with an endless bucket chain pivotally suspended at its shipside end and which is pivotally mounted between its ends on a horizontal pivot on the shipside end of a lever which, in turn, is pivotally supported on a horizontal pivot between its ends on a support structure that, in turn, is fixed on a gantry. The landside ends of the boom and the lever are counterweighted and adjustably connected to each other whereby the angular relation of the boom to the lever on which it is mounted may be varied, and the lever, in turn, has a fluid pressure cylinder and piston unit for pivotally adjusting its angle relative to its support on the gantry.

  • Patent number: 4232792
Abstract: A remotely controlled rotatable crane for loading logs on a live deck. The crane includes a carriage having a horizontal bed rotatable on a circular track about a verticle axis, the bed carrying a truss assembly extending upwardly and radially outwardly from the bed. The distal end of the truss assembly carries a vertically movable and rotatable grapple. A winch and cable raises and lowers the grapple. A counterweight is disposed on the carriage to counter balance the truss assembly. Electrohydraulic controls operate the winch for raising and lowering the grapple, controls the rotation of the grapple about a vertical axis and its opening and closing and controls the movement of the carriage about its vertical axis. Hydraulic motors also drive wheels on the track for rotating the carriage about a vertical axis.

  • Patent number: 4226300
Abstract: A self-propelled rotatable hydraulic lift having a body with an extensible boom pivotally attached to the upper rear portion of a counterweight and terminating in a self-leveling workman's platform. Remote lift controls are provided at the platform by means of control lines contained in flexible conduits within the boom. The center of gravity of the counterweight is located between the pivotal connection of the boom and the axis of rotation of the boom to provide both improved stability with respect to back tipping when the boom is extended vertically and a smaller rotational diameter for the lift body.
