Knuckle-pin Bottom Retainers Patents (Class 213/156)
  • Patent number: 10508688
Abstract: A bearing device includes a support having a bearing hole, a shaft member slidably inserted into the bearing hole thereby to be rotatably supported by the support, the shaft member having an axial end surface and a locking part located on the axial end surface of the shaft member to protrude in an axial direction of the shaft member from an outer periphery of the axial end surface of the shaft member. The locking part is deformed by force applied to its axial protruding end so as to bulge outward in a radial direction intersecting the axial direction, so that the bulging part is capable of being locked to a peripheral part of the bearing hole on an outer surface of the support.

  • Patent number: 9416848
Abstract: A chain link comprises a first plate, a second plate, a pin which connects the two plates, and a plurality of rolling elements arranged circumferentially around the pin, wherein the plurality of rolling elements are exposed to enable direct contact between them and a tooth of a sprocket when said chain link is mounted to said sprocket. The plurality of rolling elements may be arranged to roll along a surface of the pin. The plurality of rolling elements may be arranged to roll along a surface of a tooth of a sprocket when the chain link is mounted to the sprocket.

  • Patent number: 8631952
Abstract: A railcar coupler knuckle includes a tail section, a hub section, and a nose section. The tail, hub, and nose sections define internal cavities including (i) a kidney cavity, (ii) a pivot pin cavity, and (ii) a finger cavity. The kidney and pivot pin cavities are formed using at least one internal core during manufacturing of the coupler knuckle. The finger cavity is formed from a finger section of cope and drag mold portions of a mold used during manufacturing of the coupler knuckle, wherein the finger section of the mold defines the entirety of the finger cavity of the coupler knuckle.

  • Patent number: 7896179
Abstract: A knuckle pin retainer for a railroad car coupler adapted for disposition in an aperture formed by a knuckle coupler assembly for connecting adjacent railroad car. The pin retainer includes a pivot pin with a retaining member installed within the pivot pin. The retaining member extends diametrically from a slot in the elongate shaft and is spring-loaded and rotatable within a slot in the shaft. A spring member is disposed within the slot between a back wall of the slot and the retaining member. The spring member is biased to expose the retaining member outside of the slot.

  • Patent number: 6062406
Abstract: A coupler pivot pin and retention clip assembly for a railroad car coupler adapted to pivotally connect a knuckle of the railroad car coupler to a body of the railroad car coupler. The pivot pin assembly includes a pivot pin having an elongate shank having a head at one end and a groove formed in the shank at a second end. A circular retention clip member is adapted to be selectively retained within the groove and to the shank to prevent removal of the pivot pin from the coupler. The retention clip member includes a generally circular band having a respective tab extending generally radially outwardly from each end of the band. The band is resiliently flexible from a relaxed position, wherein the band is adapted to be retained in the groove, to an expanded position, wherein the band has an enlarged diameter allowing the band to be removed from the groove and the pivot pin so that the pivot pin may be removed from the coupler, by manually pressing the first and second tabs together.

  • Patent number: 5145076
Abstract: A plastic knuckle pin for a coupler on a railway car which accepts bending fatigue, eliminates rust or corrosion, and reduces the coefficient of friction during opening and closing the coupler. The pin also protects the integrity of the coupler body and the knuckle to reduce coupler maintenance and further reduces the weight of the railway car and facilitates the use of a self-locking feature.

  • Patent number: 4976363
Abstract: Am improved railway vehicle coupler head is provided having knuckle pin retaining element which is free to fully rotate with the knuckle pin to enable continuous rotation of the knuckle pin during use. An elastic ring located within a circumferential groove on a bottom portion of the knuckle pin precludes the knuckle pin from unintentional upward removal during use while allowing for continuous rotation therewithin. The continuous rotation of the knuckle pin allows for the distribution of stress about the circumference of a knuckle pin resulting in a longer fatigue life for the knuckle pin.
