Connections To Cushion Patents (Class 213/64)
  • Patent number: 11059501
Abstract: Linkage device for a couplings of railway vehicles, the coupling head of which is connected to a drawbar linked to a steering pivot of the railway vehicle, which drawbar is provided with spring elements sitting on it in order to dampen compressive and tensile force that arise, e.g., when coupling the railway vehicle. The spring elements are fastened to a plate that can be rotated about an axis of rotation of the steering pivot. In this way, they are also deflected when the coupling is deflected so that the compressive and tensile forces acting on the latter also act upon its entire surface evenly, even when the coupling is deflected. The linkage device is also provided with overload protection.

  • Patent number: 6357612
Abstract: A self-positioning cushioning device adapted to be mounted in the end of a rail car sill includes a hydraulic cylinder and yoke. A piston rod extends from the cylinder and is joined to one end of a yoke. The other end of the yoke is joined to a rail car coupler through a drawbar. A preloaded stack of elastomer pads is confined in a pocket in the yoke between a pair of stop plates which extend laterally of the yoke to engage stops during movement of the yoke, rod and piston in response to buff and draft impacts. The cylinder is filled with pressurized hydraulic fluid which maintains the piston in a central neutral position with the stop plate adjacent to coupler held against stops on the rail car sill. Buff impacts are cushioned first by the cylinder and at the end of the stroke by both the cylinder and the spring. Draft impacts are cushioned by both the cylinder and the spring.

  • Patent number: 6330953
Abstract: A shock absorbing tow bar for connection between the accumulating trolley and load carriage of a power and free conveyor system is disclosed. The tow bar includes one component that is connectable to the accumulating trolley and another that is connectable to the intermediate trolley of the load carriage. • Patent number: 6321922
Abstract: A shock-resistant coupler for a vehicle includes a substantially hollow draft gear tube and a coupler head. The draft gear tube has an inside surface, and the coupler head has a flexible, substantially hollow shank portion. The shank portion has a distal end that extends into one end, or mouth, of the draft gear tube. A collar on the distal end features a predetermined number of longitudinally extending relief grooves. Formed in the shank portion adjacent the distal end thereof are at least two slots that extend longitudinally from the collar. These slots enable the distal end of the shank portion to be compressed inwardly so that the shank portion may be inserted into the draft gear tube. A plurality of shear bolts, directed radially through openings in the draft gear tube and corresponding threaded holes in the collar, enable the shank portion to be secured against the inside surface of the draft gear tube.

  • Patent number: 5573126
Abstract: When slack-free railcar connector assemblies are placed under very high tensile loading, the connector assembly components will stretch and allow a typical "rigid" gravity wedge to descend into a fully seated position between the components and lock-in the tensile loads. The locked-in loads become additive in nature when successively encountered compressive loads are experienced by the connector assembly, thereby increasing the lateral drawbar angling forces, as well as accelerating coupling component wear. The wedge component of the present invention includes a means for vertically supporting and retaining the wedge in a holding position slightly above the normally fully seated position during the tensile loading, thereby eliminating the build up of tensile forces in the connector assembly.
