The container spout includes a cap region configured to accept a container cap (e.g., a snap-on cap), and a support region positioned between the cap region and the hollow container body. The support region comprises one or more bumper rolls positioned around an exterior of the support region and one or more support protrusions extending between a bottom edge of the cap region and a bottom edge of the support region, wherein each of the one or more support protrusions defines a substantially horizontal convex curvature having a radius smaller than a radius of the container spout. The support protrusions are aligned with corners of the container, and thereby transfer axial crushing forces applied to the container spout onto the container corners to increase the axial crush resistance of the container.

    Abstract: A child-resistant lift-off cap for a container is adapted to be difficult to unseat independently to open the container. An overlay portion associated with the cap is adapted for use to lift the cap from a container to unseat it. The overlay portion has a thumb tab and is deformable to engage and lift the seated cap only when the thumb tab is lifted. The overlay portion raises independently of the cap when the deformable portion is not deformed into engagement with the cap. Alternatively, a lift-top cap having a slot through it, the slot having a first opening near an edge of the cap to be lifted to unseat the cap and a second opening. A slide in the slot has a first end biased to be flush with or recessed into the first opening and a second end biased to normally protrude out of the second opening. The second end of the slide can be depressed against the bias of the slide to displace the first end of the slide out of the first opening to function as a thumb tab to assist in lifting the cap from a container.

The flip top closure is attached to a neck finish, fitment or other container spout and includes a flip top that is hingedly attached to a depending sidewall. The child-resistant mechanism includes a retention tab that engages a retention bead when the flip top is closed, but allows the top to be opened by the alignment of the retention tab with a retention lug, located on the neck finish or fitment, over which the retention tab may slide when upward force is applied to a thumb tab attached to the top. The interaction of the retention tab and the retention lug when the flip top is closed prevents the closure from being automatically aligned for opening, after the closure is closed.
