Abstract: A closure for a transportable container used in the transfer of materials to or from an enclosed process area is described. The container docks with a port in a wall of the process area forming a sealed connecting chamber which is sterilized by irradiation. Communication between the interiors of the container and the process area is then established. The closure has a collar and a lid, which portions are formed so that all the surfaces which form part of the connecting chamber in use are in the direct line of the sterilizing radiation, which is normally ultra-violet or pulsed white light radiation. No relevant surface is shadowed from the radiation. The lid may be formed integrally with the collar with a thin web separating the two to define a fracture line. The lid is provided with a grip which can be grasped from within the process area. Application of a pulling force to the grip causes the lid to be pealed away from the collar without the generation of particulates.

  • Patent number: 5069345
Abstract: A single service container having a plastic body and a non-removable plastic cap. The cap and body are made of materials which are compatible to one another for recycling purposes. A tear strip is defined in the cap by a pair of score lines which extend substantially across the cap. By lifting a pulling member that is integrally formed with the tear strip, the tear strip separates from the remainder of the cap along the score lines and provides the container with an opening through which its contents may be consumed. In this manner, a container is provided which has no components that need to be separated prior to recycling.

  • Patent number: 4984716
Abstract: A tamper evidencing or evident closure for a container having a dispensing orifice includes separately formed cap and base sections, the base section engaging an opening of the container and including an orifice member through which contents of the container are dispensed, the cap section including a skirt to which a cap is hingedly attached and a pair of tear strips formed around a lower edge of the cap member that are frangibly connected between the cap and the skirt portion so as to prevent opening of the cap without breaking of connections between the tear strip and the cap. A pull ring concentrically formed about the cap member and attached to ends of the tear strips, but not attached to the cap member, is included so that the tear strips can be torn away from the cap and skirt by simply pulling up on the pull ring.

  • Patent number: 4953729
Abstract: A water bottle sanitation shield covers the neck and shoulder regions of the bottle and effectively insulates the interior of the cooler tank from contaminants that may have accumulated on the bottle during transport and handling. The shield comprises film of non porous material that is secured around the mouth of the bottle by an annular retention cap. The film has a perforated region for placement over the mouth of the bottle and a pull cord attached to the perforated region. The film is sized so that, when the bottle is inverted and lowered onto the tank opening, the film extends beyond its edge, thereby effectively closing off the tank opening. To remove the perforated region, the bottle is tilted at its shoulder region, to provide free movement for the pull cord. Pulling the cord causes the perforated region of the film to tear away, thereby allowing the water within the bottle to pass through the mouth of the bottle and into the water cooler tank.

  • Patent number: 4768667
Abstract: A tear-off container closure, such as a cap for sealing bottles, has an upper covering panel, a cylindrical cap skirt, a tear-off strip defined by score lines in the covering plate and cap skirt. The strip continues as (a) a tongue protruding outside the cap skirt and (b) a pulling member joined to the tongue of the tear-off strip. The pulling member includes a connecting portion, made of plastic. This connecting portion is joined to the tongue of the tear-off strip to form a joint between tongue and connecting portion which joint is resistant to tensile and torsional stress. The outwardly directed side of the joint is also provided with a protruding spacer, the upper operative surface of which is spaced from the root of the tongue by a distance substantially less than the height of the cap skirt.

  • Patent number: 4562932
Abstract: A cap closure for containers with pharmaceutical contents, especially for bottle-shaped containers possessing tear-open tabs and containing substances destined for injection, infusion or transfusion, is constructed such that a stopper can be pulled from the container without contaminating the sterile pouring rim thereof. A lifting-off part provided on the closing cap is intended to engage with the stopper. The tear-open tab and a grip piece form a pulling element for lifting off the stopper on which the lifting-off part acts.

  • Patent number: 4534478
Abstract: A tamper indicating cover seals the closure end of a capped container. The cover is secured to the container by means of a safety band secured within an annular indent in the container. The safety band has visual indicia different from the remainder of the cover so that when a pull tab on the safety band is pulled, the indicia-containing safety band is removed. As the safety band is removed, the remainder of the plastic cover is torn as a result of a helical tear line which may be a stress pattern or a thread embedded in or disposed underneath the plastic cover. The cover is secured to the container by heat fusing or other means between the safety band and the indent of the container.

  • Patent number: 4482071
Abstract: A rubber plug is inserted into a opening of a neck portion of container airtightly and is covered with a seal cap made of an aluminum thin plate. The seal cap has slit-like cutout lines along which the seal cap is to be separated into two halves and is covered with an outer cap made of elastic material. The seal cap is connected to the outer cap at one or two positions. Therefore, the seal cap can be removed from the container by one operation of pulling-up the outer cap, and it is possible to reduce an injury caused by the seal cap.
