Patent number: 4846361Abstract: A one-piece molded plastic closure having a tamper-indicating band connected to the closure skirt by rupturable means. The tamper band uses series of solid interiorly projecting beads that come in contact with a transfer bead on the container as the closure is unscrewed. The engagement of the beads and container breaks the band by rupture on the connection means. The beads in the band are arranged in tiers at three different heights on the band. A thick cylindrical section at the bottom of the band assists initial capping. The beads are disposed in the band at an angle equal to the pitch angle of the container threads. This eliminates need for top pressure in capping by the beads following the container thread lowering and driving the beads over the container's transfer bead locking the band in place.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1988Date of Patent: July 11, 1989Assignee: Owens-Illinois Closure Inc.Inventor: Eugene F. Upon opening the container, the frictional engagement between the transfer bead and the interior groove will cause the bottom extension to remain tightly affixed to the transfer bead, thereby causing the closure to sever along the weakened seam.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1984Date of Patent: April 9, 1985Inventor: Daniel J. Patent number: 4506797Abstract: A plastic cover fits over the top and partially down the sides of a corked wine bottle. Such a bottle conventionally has an external bead a short distance below the top of the neck. The cover has a skirt formed with a complementary bead which fits tightly over such bead, the plastic material stretching sufficiently for the cover to lock into place so that it cannot be removed with the skirt intact. A tear strip is formed substantially circumferentially around the cap bead by a pair of vertically spaced score-lines. The skirt is grooved to form a tear tab which extends circumferentially along a portion of the bottle bead. By tearing off the tear strip the portion of the cap thereabove can be removed. As a supplemental means of access for removal of the cork, the top disc of the cap may be formed with a circular score-line.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1983Date of Patent: March 26, 1985Assignee: Three Sisters Ranch EnterprisesInventor: Joseph J. Patent number: 4501373Abstract: A closure cap, in particular for bottle-like containers, having an element assuring intactness, which is connected by tear strips with a cap portion and remains on the container after the closure has been opened for the first time by tearing the tear strips, characterized in that a separation seam separating the element assuring intactness from the cap portion has a first set of alternating segments disposed in zigzag fashion periodically about the circumference of the element insuring intactness and additionally has a second set of alternating segments similar to said first set and carried by the cap portion. The first and second sets of segments mesh with each other. Tear strips are carried by the cap jacket between the element insuring intactness and the cap portion. The first and second sets of segments mesh with one another and serve as a coupling means during closure.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1982Date of Patent: February 26, 1985Inventor: Hans Heinlein

Patent number: 4494664Abstract: A tamper evident closure for bottles and containers includes a cap and a tamper-indicating lower ring or belt, those two parts are linked together by a weak breakable circumferential area, which will break at opening of the container leaving behind the lower ring. This closure is the result of a simplified manufacturing process that forms the breakable circumferential area by forming misaligned cuts about the circumference of the closure between the upper cap and lower ring. Upon opening, the lower ring moves down on the neck of the container. Upon reclosing, the space between the cap and ring makes the prior opening of the bottle very evident.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1983Date of Patent: January 22, 1985Assignee: Angelo Guala, S.p.A.Inventor: Piergiacomo Guala

Patent number: 4493427Abstract: A flask for sterile liquids capable of supporting a terminal sterilization of pharmaceutical quality. The flask has a tamper-proof closure comprising a cap screwed on its neck and a locking ring formed in two parts axially superposed and joined by a breakable zone. One of the parts is axially carried away by the cap during opening of the flask and the other part is held axially by a shoulder formed on the neck. The cap encloses a seal made of elastomeric material inserted between its bottom and the edge of the neck, this seal being axially solid with the cap and comprising a skirt applying itself against the inner surface of the neck in a bacteriologically sealproof manner along a height sufficient to ensure a bacteriological closure seal until the locking ring is broken.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 1983Date of Patent: January 15, 1985Assignee: Stericric SAInventor: Alexander Wolkonsky

Patent number: 4489843Abstract: Tamper-evident closures include a threaded cap and a tamper-evident ring removably connected to each other by break-away tabs adapted to break when the cap is rotated in a direction to remove it from a cooperating container. The cap and ring have cooperating surfaces for transmitting closing rotational movement of the cap to the ring to thereby rotate the cap and ring together during closing of the container to thereby prevent separation of the cap from the ring at the break-away tabs. The ring further includes at least one locking surface adapted to engage a corresponding surface on a container to prevent the ring from rotating in the opening direction of rotation, whereby rotation of the closure to open it will cause relative movement between the cap and ring to sever the break-away tabs. A method of molding the cap, tamper-evident ring and break-away tabs as a single member also constitutes a part of the invention, as well as the particular container constructions adapted to cooperate with the closures.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1983Date of Patent: December 25, 1984Assignee: Captive Plastics, Inc.Inventor: Edward J. Patent number: 4485934Abstract: A tamperproof closure is disclosed for use with a container nozzle having a circular transfer bead. The closure includes a top and depending sidewalls which are defined from a bottom extension by a circular weakened seam. An interior groove is provided in the bottom extension of diameter less than the diameter of the transfer bead. A plurality of slots are formed in the bottom extension between the weakened seam and the interior groove to provide a degree of flexibility. The closure may be applied to the nozzle in either a threaded connection or in a snap ring connection. Upon opening the container, the frictional engagement between the transfer bead and the interior groove will cause the bottom extension to remain tightly affixed to the transfer bead, thereby causing the closure to sever along the weakened seam.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1983Date of Patent: December 4, 1984Inventor: Daniel J.
