A resilient locking tab extends from the container, and is located below the shaped distal end and spaced apart from the shaped distal end a distance sufficient to allow passage of the barb beyond the shaped distal end but sufficiently close to resiliently urge the barb into overlapping rotational alignment with the shaped end. The shaped end is configured to lockingly engage the barb when the tab holds them in alignment. Pushing down on the cap pushes the thread against the locking tab and allows disengagement of the barb from the shaped distal end and movement of the barb past the shaped distal end to unlock the cap.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2007Date of Patent: March 9, 2010Assignee: Rexam Delta Inc.Inventor: Jack S. Patent number: 7648051Abstract: The dispensing closure is provided having a stopping mechanism that limits the rotation of the closure and generally prevents removal of the closure from the container. The dispensing closure includes a cap body, fitment, and container finish. The cap body has a double shell design, which includes at least one drop lug reverse tapered from the inner shell. When the cap body is rotated about the container finish, the reverse tapered drop lug engages at least one lug stop located on the container finish so as to limit the rotation, thereby preventing removal of the cap body from the container finish. The reverse taper of the drop lug maximizes the abutment surface and stability of the drop lug when engaging the corresponding lug stop.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 2006Date of Patent: January 19, 2010Assignee: Rexam Closures and Containers Inc.Inventors: Gary V. Montgomery, Christopher B. Clodfelter, William D. Sprick

Patent number: 7469794Abstract: A container closure assembly comprising a container having a finish and external threads and a cup-like cap having a top and a depending circumferentially extending skirt having second internal threads engagable with the container threads. Detents are providing on one of said threads to normally prevent rotation of the cap in a direction to remove it from the container. First and second interengaging members are formed integrally with the cap and container. One of the interengaging members is flexible to bias the cap in an upward direction to maintain the threads in engagement when the cap is seated on the container. Displacement of the cap downwardly against the normal bias of the interengaging means displaces the cap and container threads to disengage the detents to permit rotation of the cap in a direction to remove it from the container.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2005Date of Patent: December 30, 2008Inventor: David Krueger

Patent number: 7434703Abstract: A tamper-indicating child-resistant package includes a container having a finish with an open mouth and an external circumferential bead spaced from the mouth. A closure has a skirt for externally encircling the container finish, a tamper band frangibly connected to the skirt for positioning beneath the external circumferential bead on the container finish, and a spring element for engaging the finish and biasing the closure away from the finish. The finish and the skirt have interlocking elements that resist removal of the closure from the finish absent force against the spring element to disengage the interlocking elements. Engagement of the tamper band with the external circumferential bead ruptures the frangible connection of the band to the skirt upon first removal of the closure from the container finish to indicate potential tampering with the package.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2004Date of Patent: October 14, 2008Assignee: Rexam Prescription Products Inc.Inventor: John M. Patent number: 7331479Abstract: A locking cap and container is provided for a container having an opening surrounded by a neck with container threads thereon that are sized and located to threadingly engage cap threads formed on a skirt of the cap. A shaped distal end is formed on a distal end of the container threads and a barb is formed on the distal end of the cap threads. Patent number: 7198170Abstract: A system includes a container including projections equi-spaced around a neck region. Each of the projections includes a cam surface, a lock surface, a ramp, and a clamping surface. The system also include a closure including a closure plane and a circumferentially depending outer skirt extending from the closure plane, a tamper-evident arrangement frangibly connected to an edge of the outer skirt opposite the closure plane, and pairs of lugs equi-spaced around an inner sidewall formed by the outer skirt and the tamper-evident arrangement. A lock lug of each pair of lugs is arranged on the tamper-evident arrangement and a sealing lug of each pair of lugs is arranged on the outer skirt. Patent number: 7051991Abstract: An actuator operated by a solenoid and a force amplifying means utilizing hydraulic pressure are used in combination with a diaphragm, to thereby provide a diaphragm valve made of Teflon™, and which is compact in size, has low power consumption, and which is capable of exerting a large force. The force amplifying means mainly comprises a cylinder including cylinder portions having different cross-sectional areas and oil filled in the cylinder. A force amplification ratio is equal to a ratio between the cross-sectional areas of the cylinder portions. A plunger which receives a biasing force of a spring is provided on an upper side of the force amplifying means. The plunger is operated by a solenoid, and a driving force of the plunger is amplified by the force amplifying means and transmitted to the diaphragm, thus adjusting a degree of valve opening.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 2004Date of Patent: May 30, 2006Assignee: MKS Japan, Inc.Inventor: Isao Suzuki

Patent number: RE39340Abstract: Two cap modifications are disclosed for use on water bottles to be installed in water dispensers. A central conical well in the top of the cap is formed with a scoreline. When the bottle is lowered into a dispenser, a probe of the dispenser enters the well and causes it to split along the scoreline. When the bottle is raised, the well substantially returns to initial condition, inhibiting spillage of any liquid remaining in the bottle.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1999Date of Patent: October 17, 2006Assignee: Portola Packaging, Inc.Inventors: Brian M.
