  • Patent number: 11434051
Abstract: In consumer-market containers for beverages or other contents under pressure, the cap provides a gas-tight seal by way of two mechanisms that work interdependently. The first is a pressure grip configured to grip the outside wall of the container. The second is twist threads, or some other second attachment structure, that urges the inside of the cap (or, typically, a cap liner disposed thereon) against the rim of the container. Release of pressurized gases when the container is first opened can be by way of release vents in the cap, or via the bottom of the cap through the twist thread area. In the latter case, particular configurations of the pressure grip are relied on to establish the gas escape path.

The specimen collection container comprises a cup, cap and improved sealing mechanism. The sealing mechanism forms multiple seals between the cup and cap. In a preferred embodiment, the sealing mechanism forms primary, secondary and tertiary seals between the cap the cup. The primary and secondary seals are preferably formed between the cap and the interior surface of the cup. The tertiary seal is preferably formed between the cap and the distal edge of the cup. The first, second and third seals are sequentially formed as the cap is rotated from a first radial position at which the threads first engage each other to a second radial location at which the cap is fully closed. Each of the three seals on its own is capable of sealing the container and preventing a fluid specimen from leaking from the cup if the seal is maintained.

Abstract: This stopper device (3) for a container (B) comprises a sealing disk (2) suitable for being sealed, adhesively bonded, or blocked against the end edge (12) of the neck (1) of the container (B), while projecting radially outwards from the neck. The device also comprises a stopper (4) suitable for being mounted on the neck (1) and provided with an internal portion in relief enabling a thrust force to be exerted on the sealing disk (2) urging the disk (2) away from the neck (1). The internal portion in relief is formed by a tongue (412) formed integrally with the stopper (4) and folded towards the end wall (413) of the stopper, in a configuration that is generally frustoconical and that converges (?) towards said end wall (413).

Abstract: The invention relates to a lid for jars or tins having a screw-lock or twist-lock mechanism for sealing the content of the jar or tin in an air-tight manner. The lid is made up of a rubber or plastic seal between the inside of the lid and the upper peripheral edge of the jar or tin. The lid has a discoid plate having a continuous opening or alternatively-no opening is inserted between the lid and the upper edge of the jar or tin. The peripheral edge representing the upper edge of the jar or tin is configured to form a tight seal with the discoid plate when the jar or tin is closed. The opening of the plate is associated with a seal facing the inside of the lid and blocking air from penetrating the opening.

  • Patent number: 7380678
Abstract: The invention relates to a lid (1) and a method of opening the lid which is used for closing a container (15) having means on the inner side of screwing on to the neck (2) of a container. Internally, the lid has an inner lid (5) which is secured in the lid (1) by at least one securing means. The object of the invention is to provide a lid which is easy to open without using a great force or by using a tool, and which may simultaneously be disposed of without significant environmental impact. This is achieved by a lid (1) whose collar (3) has at least one projection (13) which points radially toward the centre and which extends from the inner side of the collar (3), wherein, during unscrewing of the lid (1), the projection (13) presses the edge of the inner lid (5) at least at one point out of contact with the upper edge of the package neck. This ensures venting of the volume of the container with a relatively weak torque.

  • Patent number: 7350656
Abstract: A cap for use with bottled water dispensing systems. The cap includes a main cap and a liner. The main cap has an opening which receives and seals against a probe. The liner is gripped between the main cap and the bottle neck and has a outside part and an inner movable part. The inner movable part is separated from the outer part by perforations and is connected to the outer part by a large connecting section, which serves as a hinge, and small connecting sections, which serve as frangible ties. When the bottle is lowered onto the dispensing system, the probe enters into the opening in the main cap, breaks the frangible ties, and pushes the inner movable part open like a flap. The liner, at the location of the large connecting section, is resilient such that the inner movable part tends to close when the bottle is removed from the dispensing system.

  • Patent number: 7175039
Abstract: A composite closure includes a band and an insert disk. A contact surface urges downwardly against the disk even while the band moves longitudinally relative to the disk or container. The closure has a fully tightened position in which the band's ring contacts the disk's annular channel, a loose position in which the ring is spaced apart from the annular channel, and an intermediate tightened position in which the ring is spaced apart from the disk and the contact surface urges against the curl. Another composite closure includes plural fins or gussets. The fins or gussets engage the peripheral curl of the insert disk to secure the band to the disk, which provides a resistance to initial unscrewing of the band. The disengagement torque required to disengage the curl from the fins may enable the closure to function as a one-piece closure.

  • Patent number: 7168581
Abstract: The present development is for a closure which provides a means for maintaining an effective pressure against a peelable seal affixed to a container lip as the sealed container is exposed to relatively high temperature and pressure conditions. The closure includes a liner which abuts a surface of the seal so as to sandwich the seal between the liner and the container lip. The resilient liner and inner foil seal are positioned above a retaining structure and function such that the peelable seal will not rotate relative to a container rim upon engaging the container rim as the closure is rotationally applied. This functions to inhibit torque transmission from the closure to the inner seal or reseal structure and further inhibits imperfections in the container rim from scraping or otherwise damaging the inner seal.
