Broken By Manipulation Of Closure Patents (Class 215/48)
  • Patent number: 6138849
Abstract: A plastics weld pourer component having child-proof properties for attachment by welding to a container component of film-like plastics material, includes a tubular body portion defining a through passage having axially spaced ends. A plurality of welding ribs is formed integrally on the outer periphery of the body portion near one axial end of the through passage. Furthermore, a cap member is integrally formed on the body portion near the other axial end, said cap member sealing the through passage at one end. The cap member is attached to the body portion through a weakened portion which is adapted to break when a rotational force is exerted by hand on the cap member. The dimensions of the cap member relative to those of the body portion are made such that the cap member can be placed on the body portion for repeatedly sealing the through passage after it has been separated from the body portion.

  • Patent number: 6068148
Abstract: A hermetically sealed, molded thermoplastic dispensing container is provided which includes a nozzle having a resilient and unitary annular bead about the periphery thereof. The nozzle is sized to receive the hub of a dispensing assembly in a mating relationship and the bead provides a secure friction fit and liquid seal between the hub and the nozzle. The method of forming a container with a nozzle having such a bead includes the use of seal molds having a groove conforming to the shape of the bead and a vacuum passage in communication with such groove and the step of creating a vacuum through the passage and the groove to pull a portion of a parison into the groove to form the bead.

  • Patent number: 6062413
Abstract: An aperture forming structure, which when attached to or integrally formed in dispenser packages for flowable substances allows reclosure and single or multiple uses. The aperture forming structure includes a break away tip member of thermoformable plastic. The break away tip includes a hollow protrusion from a surface. The intersection of the hollow protrusion and the surface is a fault line. Rupturing of the fault line creates an aperture from which the contents of the dispenser package may exit. A cap may be integrally formed with the aperture forming structure and detached for protecting the hollow protrusion or for closing the aperture created when the fault line is ruptured. The aperture forming structure can be made by heating a relatively stiff substantially flat thermoformable sheet of and then stretching the sheet to create a first and a second hollow protrusion in a tiered configuration. A rupture line is placed at the intersection of the first and the second protrusions.

  • Patent number: 6000566
Abstract: A tamper indicating bridged fitment is provided having an annular flange and an upwardly extending cylindrical side wall. Said fitment has a tamper indicating feature which is comprised of a bridge connected to the top edge of said upwardly extending cylindrical side wall by frangible webs. The tamper indicating bridge additionally has a slot formed longitudinally therethrough, said slot receiving a tab extending upward from a plug. The plug is a separate element which is comprised of a tab and a top wall and additionally has a downwardly extending cylindrical seal wall which acts to seal the fitment. Once the tab is inserted through the slot in the tamper indicating bridge, the fitment may only be opened by breaking the frangible tamper indicating webs connecting the bridge to the fitment side wall. Once the webs are broken, the plug may be removed by the tab and the bridge is thereby disconnected from the fitment.

  • Patent number: 5908124
Abstract: A plastic tube with an integral finish and a twist off tab are blow molded. The twist off tab is connected to the finish of the tube by an annular groove forming a line of weakness. The tab is formed by the closing of mold halves about an extruded parison to form a flat twist off tab connected by a thin membrane to the exterior of the finish. The tab is then blow molded to form the tube. After the mold halves are opened, the twist-off tab is trimmed to provide the finished tube. The tab is formed by a conventional blow molding process without the need of a secondary operation. A plurality of blow molded corrugations are provided between annular blow molded ribs on the finish and provide added strength to the finish to facilitate removal of the tab.
