Patent number: 7633031Abstract: An operating mechanism closing assembly for an electrical switching apparatus having a ram assembly structured to engage and move a toggle assembly is provided. The ram assembly includes a ram body that travels over a, preferably, straight path and engages the toggle assembly. The path may be defined by one or more pins extending through the ram body. One or more springs are coupled to the ram body and bias the ram body toward the toggle assembly. The springs may be conveniently disposed about the pins. In this configuration, the force created by the springs is, essentially, applied directly to the toggle assembly. The toggle assembly is coupled to, and structured to rotate, a pole shaft that is further coupled to, and structured to actuate, the electrical switching apparatus contacts. Accordingly, because the force created by the springs is not transferred via one or more cams, the required force, and therefore the size of the springs, is reduced compared to the prior art.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2007Date of Patent: December 15, 2009Assignee: Eaton CorporationInventors: Henry Anthony Wehrli, III, Andrew L. Patent number: 7115828Abstract: An electric power interrupter with an internal contactor that is suitable for use as a line and load switch constructed from light weight materials including a fiberglass or composite insulator and aluminum flanges. The light weight design feature allows the power interrupter to be supported above a standard disconnect switch insulator without having to replace or reinforce the insulator. The power interrupter also includes a latch mechanism with a low-force trip action, such as a spring-driven toggle mechanism that accelerates the internal contactor to break the electric power circuit on the opening stroke. This low-force trip action allows the power interrupter to be actuated by a standard disconnect switch operating mechanism without having to upgrade or augment the standard operating mechanism. For these reasons, the power interrupter may be installed as a retrofit upgrade to an existing standard disconnect switch without having to modify the underlying disconnect switch.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2004Date of Patent: October 3, 2006Assignee: Southern States, Inc.Inventors: Neil McCord, Joseph R. Patent number: 7098418Abstract: An adjusting bolt is screwed into a nut attached to a dolly, and is disposed such that a central axis thereof is parallel to a closing and opening direction of a contact. A lever is attached to a shaft. An electrically-insulating rod is coupled to a first end of the lever, and a pin is mounted to a second end of the lever. The adjusting bolt is turned and lowered to lower the pin. The lever and the shaft are pivoted by the lowering of the pin, and the electrically-insulating rod is raised. Thus, a movable contact moves toward a fixed contact, moving the contact from an open state to a closed state.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 2005Date of Patent: August 29, 2006Assignee: Mitsubishi Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hiroshi Yamada, Kazuhiko Kagawa
