  • Patent number: 5898149
Abstract: This power circuit-breaker has at least one cylindrically constructed arcing chamber which is provided with a stationary contact, with a moving contact and with a quenching zone between the two contacts. A shaft of the moving contact is permanently connected to a blowout volume which is closed off on the stationary contact side by an insulating nozzle through which at least one flow channel passes. The arcing chamber has a first compression volume which is operatively connected to the blowout volume and to a second compression volume. It is intended to provide a power circuit-breaker in which the blowing-out of the arc with pure SF.sub.6 gas is made stronger. This is achieved by providing a moving auxiliary piston between the first compression volume and the second compression volume and by the auxiliary piston being connected to the moving contact via a direction-changing device.

  • Patent number: 5898151
Abstract: A circuit-breaker including main contacts and arcing contacts includes a shaft carrying a first lever connected to the moving main contact. A hub is mounted inside the shaft and carries a second lever connected to the moving arcing contact; the shaft and the hub being shaped over a certain portion into two sectors between which a spring is disposed. A single control causes the shaft to rotate so that the shaft firstly causes the hub to rotate via the spring, the shaft and the hub rotating respectively causing the moving main contact and the moving arcing contact to move, and the shaft secondly rotates to a further extent, with the hub being prevented from rotating by action from an abutment. This arrangement makes it possible to implement a simple synchronization of the main contacts opening before the arcing contacts.

  • Patent number: 5856642
Abstract: The present invention provides a clutch-coupled crossarm mounted switch operator. The switch operator of the invention includes rotational motor means, a non-positive contact or infinite engagement clutch mechanism, and an output coupling. The rotational motor means further includes an input shaft to which the clutch mechanism is coupled. The infinite engagement clutch mechanism does not depend on rotational alignment means for engagement of the clutch. The clutch further includes an output shaft to which the output coupling is coupled. The output coupling is in turn coupled to a gang operated switch element that causes the switch contacts of the gang operated switch to open and close. Use of the clutch coupled switch operator thus effects the opening and closing of the gang operated switch contacts. Further, disengagement of the clutch mechanism allows the user to exercise and test the rotational motor means without displacing the contacts of the gang operated overhead high voltage air switch.

Abstract: A compressed gas-blast circuit breaker including a pump cylinder which is moved along with a movable first contact piece. The pump cylinder surrounds a pumping space and a blast chamber, the latter of which is fluidly connected to a first blast nozzle surrounding the first contact piece. A pump piston is supported on a fixed support part via toggle levers, and a toggle joint of the toggle levers is pivoted to a drive rod via a rocker. At the start of a switch-off stroke, an initial bent position of the toggle lever is lessened, intensified after the straightened position has been passed, then lessened again and intensified again after the straightened position has been passed once more. The oscillation of the toggle lever about the straightened position permits the pump piston to be virtually stationary, while an intermediate bottom, which separates the pumping space from the blast chamber, approaches the pump piston in order to reduce the pumping volume.

Abstract: A switching mechanism for use e.g. in a circuit breaker of an underground electric substation has a movable rod which causes opening and closing of an electrical contact and a hydraulic operating system. The hydraulic operating system uses a hydraulic fluid which has a high flammability temperature or is incombustible. Thus, even if such fluid leaks from the hydraulic operating system, the risk of fire or explosion is minimized. The hydraulic operating system may have a sealed tank for the fluid, preferably with a variable volume expansion chamber. In a further development, the hydraulic operating system and possibly parts of the movable rod, is enclosed in a casing which is sealed and is filled with a gas which does not support combustion therein. Thus, the risk of fire or explosion is further reduced. The casing may have a variable volume expansion chamber.
