  • Patent number: 11913886
Abstract: This disclosure describes an example architecture for providing a delay line for optical techniques. The delay line architecture includes a focusing element that has a focal axis disposed parallel to its length. The line of symmetry provided by the focal axis obviates path-length-dependent aberrations caused by the off-axis beam translations. The systems described herein also provide varying geometries of movable mirrors, including a galvanometer mirror and a rotating polygonal mirror. The systems and methods described herein also provide techniques for generating and detecting coherent Raman spectra using a picosecond probe pulse.

  • Patent number: 8872057
Abstract: An electrode of an inductive output tube (IOT) is provided with channels for guiding cooling fluid. In one aspect of the invention, the channels are in a confronting relationship with a jacket surrounding the electrode and spaced from the electrode so as to define an interior region. Cooling fluid such as oil is circulated in the channels in fluid communication with the interior region, providing an escape mechanism for trapped bubbles in order to prevent localized heating of the electrode. In another aspect of the invention, the channels form multiple intersecting helical patterns of different pitches, with the steeper-pitched channels providing a more direct escape route for the bubbles.

  • Patent number: 8708216
Abstract: A remote-controlled joining system for subsea pipelines for joining two smooth pipeline ends (pipe ends) that are arranged facing in line a distance apart. The system includes an apparatus arranged to move at least one of the pipeline ends sideways and in the longitudinal direction. The joining system includes a pipe sleeve having internal seals for sealing against each pipeline surface. The pipe ends are inserted into the sleeve to a facing position within the seals. The system also includes a welding clamp with an integrated welding tool for remotely welding of a first end of the pipe sleeve to the first pipeline and a second end of the pipe sleeve to the second pipeline. The welding clamp can be remotely fastened sealingly around the pipe ends and the sleeve and is equipped with means for establishing and maintaining a welding atmosphere in a volume that is delimited by the seals of the clamp and the seals of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 7915562
Abstract: The present invention relates to a high energy density beam welding system using molten metal droplet jetting. The present invention includes a beam emitting unit for emitting a high energy density beam onto a welded portion on a target object; and a molten metal droplet jetting unit for generating molten metal droplets to transfer or spray the molten metal droplets onto the welded portion on the target object, which follows a path of the beam emitting unit. Thus, it has advantages of widening a range of applications and enhancing the productivity and the quality in that a welding can be performed at a high junction efficiency even where a gap is wide, a loss in the high density energy beam is small, and heat distortions of the welded portion can be minimized.

  • Patent number: 7875235
Abstract: A method is described for batchwise heat treatment of goods to be annealed which are heated in a heating chamber after scavenging air with a scavenging gas under protective gas to a predetermined treatment temperature, with the protective gas being conveyed through the heating chamber depending on the occurrence of impurities in different quantities. In order to enable the economic use of protective gas, it is proposed that the protective gas which is withdrawn from the heating chamber after the main occurrence of impurities and which is loaded with a residual quantity of impurities is conveyed, optionally after intermediate storage, into the heating chamber during the main occurrence of impurities of a subsequent batch before non-loaded protective gas is introduced into the heating chamber.

  • Patent number: 6809286
Abstract: A shielding gas filter that can be readily incorporated into a gas shielding system for an arc welding apparatus. The gas shielding filter is readily installed to the system upstream of a gas solenoid valve and removes any potentially harmful particles from the supply of the shielding gas to prevent those particles from entering the gas solenoid valve. The shielding gas filter includes a housing having an inlet and an outlet and a specially formed passageway that communicates between the inlet and the outlet. A filter screen is retained within the housing to filter out the particles larger than a predetermined size. Preferably, the filter screen is constructed of stainless steel and filters out particles larger than about 100 microns.

  • Publication number: 20040084422
Abstract: The invention relates to a plasma source whose plasma is ignited by means of an electric voltage. To be able to carry out the ignition at relatively low voltages, a plate (5) provided with holes (13, 14) is provided beneath a plasma volume (17), which is disposed above a wall (21) of a plasma chamber (3). Through this plate (5) an ignition volume (16) is formed beneath the plasma volume (17) with a higher pressure than in the plasma volume (17), in which the plasma ignites first. The ignition is subsequently propagated through the holes of the plate (5) into the plasma volume (17).

  • Patent number: 6313428
Abstract: An apparatus for ion beam neutralization is disclosed in this invention. The apparatus is a plasma flood source with an arc discharge chamber enclosed in a source housing with sufficient cooling so that the housing temperature is near room temperature. Arc discharge between a filament and the arc chamber ionizes the bleeding gas atoms or molecules in the arc chamber and produces plasma. The low energy electrons together with ions in the plasma drift out of the arc chamber and neutralize the passing ion beam. The sufficiently cooled source housing prevents radiation to the processed wafers, reduces metal particle concentration in the plasma and therefore metal contamination on the wafers, and keeps beamline pressure low while more electrons are extracted from the flood source through the apertures with larger area.
